Chapter 104: The Unthinkable

The body lay in the clearing at the border, twisted and broken, Gabriel's throat ripped open, his limbs torn apart.

But Bella's stomach churned.

Because this wasn't how she had left him.

She had taken him apart from the inside.

She had destroyed him with magic.

This?

This was something else.

Something brutal.

Something monstrous.

Dante crouched beside the body, his blue eyes burning with suspicion.

"This isn't right."

Bella's breath came fast, uneven.

"Who would have done this?"

Dante's jaw tightened.

"That's the problem."

He looked up at her, his expression dark.

"Who could have done this?"

Because there was no one left.

No enemy.

No rival.

No one powerful enough to tear Gabriel apart like this.

Unless—

Bella's heart pounded.

Unless something worse was coming.

Dante stood, his fists clenched.

"Double the border patrols. No one gets in or out without my say."

Sage nodded sharply. "On it."

Dante turned back to Bella, his gaze hard, unreadable.

"We're not safe yet."

Bella swallowed hard.

Because she knew.

This wasn't over.

It was just beginning.
