Ophelia followed Edith through the castle for the quiet tour. Nothing was said to give Edith a warm welcome to what should be her new home. It was a clear example of how her life would be from now on.
The further Ophelia walked, the more the castle walls appeared as though no one had cleaned them in years.
Edith stopped before a door with the knob close to falling out of place. She ignored it and opened the door for the room Ophelia would use from now on. "This is your chamber and your maids will take the other room beside it."
Ophelia entered the dark room which only had light creeping in from the open door. Something caught her attention.
"Why aren't there any windows?" Ophelia asked.
Ophelia was surrounded by walls without any windows to let any light in or to let her get a glimpse of the outside world. Her plan to slip out the window when she was left alone was already a failure.
Edith didn't respond since she didn't feel the need to. This was the room she was instructed to take Ophelia to by the beta.
His hatred for the Porters burned with a fire no one could put out. This room wouldn't be switched unless the alpha allowed it.
Ophelia didn't question the matter any further. She thought of two reasons why there weren't any windows. Either they wanted to prevent her from escaping or they simply didn't care to provide her with a good room.
Ophelia found some relief when she heard a noise and light illuminated the room as Edith placed fire on a torch.
"Your maids will need to do this for you every day. If you want fresh air then you can send a maid to get a guard to escort you in areas you are allowed. The alpha has his chambers which you are not to disturb unless it is time for the two of you to mate again," said Edith.
Ophelia frowned, disliking the way Edith spoke of what she needed to do. She was more of a prisoner than a queen which led her to wonder what caused such friction between the alpha and the Porters for her to be treated this way.
Ophelia walked further into the room, finally having a chance to examine it now there was some light. All the furniture was covered by a white cloth.
Edith pulled a white cloth off the bed, turning her face to the right to not inhale the dust. "Your tour of the castle will be given when your guards are ready. If there is anything more you need from me, please send a guard. Excuse me."
Edith headed to the door, leaving Ophelia in the care of her maids. She was curious how long Ophelia would last as the mate to the alpha. The only reason a Porter was able to step foot in the castle was because of what was foretold to the alpha by a witch.
Ophelia looked at the two maids who didn't move a muscle. She didn't expect them to clean the room but they should at least act like they weren't here only to spy on her.
"Stay here," Alice, one of the maids, said. "You should get started on tidying the room. It fits you."
Ophelia had much to say to the mouthy maid but for now, all she wanted to do was rest. Her body had taken far too many beatings in so little time.
This was the best time for her wolf to awaken and heal her body but unfortunately, Ophelia wasn't so lucky.
Alice eyed the imposter. To think there had come a day when she could do as she liked with a queen. "We are going to our room but we will be back for dinner. Don't do anything stupid or I will feel inclined to inform Mr. Porter about it."
Ophelia drowned out everything said by the maid and got started on cleaning the room. The dust in the room was unbearable since there wasn't a window to send it out.
Ophelia feared she could fall sick in the room, never be tended to and die within these walls. Her life had already been miserable since she couldn't shift but it had gotten worse.
Alice laughed at the sight of Ophelia cleaning the room. There was never a queen or luna who had to act as a servant. "You looked disappointed when you arrived. Were you hoping the alpha would greet you with open arms at the gates? This is how little they think of you."
This had to be the first Luna who was put in a cage. It was very fitting for a woman like Ophelia.
"How much longer must we stay in this room?" Nora, the other maid, asked. She covered her nose with her hand to not inhale the dust. "Do you think our rooms are like this?"
Alice frowned as she only now thought of what her treatment would be when they did not care for their Luna. "Quickly, we must see."
Ophelia finally felt relieved once her maids left despite the awful room she was forced to stay in. They would both bring her trouble in the future and unfortunately, since they were sent to spy on her by Joel, Ophelia could not do anything to them.
She didn't have any authority here even as their Luna.
"Why me?" Ophelia wondered, taking a seat on the bed. Why was she so unlucky?
"Alex," Ophelia cried, thinking of her lover.
Ophelia knew there was a mark on her lower back which gave away that she was now tied to the alpha. It was a forever memory of what she endured so far and Ophelia knew there was some more heartache she would face.
She feared how much she could take before she broke and didn't make it out of the castle.
"When will he return?" Ophelia wondered, thinking of her husband.
If only she could get him to trust her then maybe her time in the castle wouldn't be so bad. Perhaps he could free her from these walls which left her feeling suffocated.
