After having dinner alone, Ophelia headed back to her room with Alice and Nora hot on her tail. Edith wasn't far behind the trio making sure they headed back where they were to be.
The only time Ophelia would ever be alone was when she returned to the cage she had to call her room.
"I will take my leave here. I must speak with beta Rick before the night ends," Edith informed Ophelia.
"Okay," Ophelia replied, a little surprised Edith informed her of who she was going to see.
Ophelia was curious about the beta but didn't want to cross paths with him. He had disobeyed the alpha's order to greet her which meant whatever he hated the Porters for was greater than his fear of what the alpha could do to him.
Ophelia continued on her way to her chamber, wanting to get out of sight before she bumped into someone else who hated her but suddenly, her body started going toward the floor.
She was falling and the reason for it was none other than Alice.
From the floor where she hit, Ophelia looked up at the hand offered to her by Alice.
"I'm so sorry. I was walking too close and my foot tripped you up," Alice apologised but her words lack any sincerity. "You should get up. Luna," the title left her lips in a mocking tone. "You don't look good sitting down there."
Ophelia bit her tongue.
How was this plan to work when the maids they sent were acting like this?
Ophelia smiled on the edge of laughing at what happened. "You shouldn't do that again. It won't end well for you if you do."
Alice retracted her hand as Ophelia stood up by herself. "And what will happen, Luna?"
A chuckle escaped Ophelia's lips.
While Alice was enjoying herself doing as she liked to the "Luna", she missed how these childish antics would raise suspicion if noticed by someone. Then it wouldn't be just Ophelia who would die but her maids as well.
Ophelia dusted off her dress and said, "I think you should pay close attention to how he killed all the other alphas and those who served them. All the betas, omegas and even maids were killed. If you're not careful, your fun will get you killed."
"I can go alone from here," said Ophelia.
Even talking in the open like this could bring suspicion because of what they said but Ophelia had to say this now.
Hopefully, Alice would only act as a spy and nothing more.
Ophelia returned to her room which was completely dark since no one had come to light the torches. She closed the door, ridding the room of the last little bit of light from the corridors and rested her back on the door for a moment before moving to deal with the room herself.
Thankfully, she was able to see her way around the dark to light the torches herself.
Ophelia got dressed for bed and tried to go to sleep right away to get this dreaded first day over with.
The room was unbearably cold with not a single sound from the outside world creeping in but Ophelia still managed to drift off to sleep.
In the dead of the night, Ophelia gasped, awoken by the feeling of someone's hands around her neck and pain from their knee digging right into the very spot she had been kicked.
Ophelia opened her eyes to be greeted by a woman she had never seen before, with the intention of murder evident in her eyes.
From the moment Ophelia entered the castle, she had a feeling she would die here but not like this. She was still determined to find her way out of the castle to make it back to her family.
Ophelia mustered up what strength she had to fight back. It could not be the same outcome as before. Someone shouldn't hurt her again and she struggled to put up a fight.
Ophelia reached up, aiming for the stranger's face to claw at their eyes. The air entering her body decreased as the hold on her neck didn't stop.
"Die, you Porter whore. You can't be our luna."
'I don't want to be!' Ophelia screamed in her head. If she could just speak and not have to worry about anyone trying to kill her or her family over a plan she was forced into, they would all see she was innocent.
Ophelia wanted the same thing as everyone else in the castle, which was for the Porters to get what they deserved. They deserved hell and more.
There was a little hope she might survive when she reached the stranger's eyes and dug her nails into the socket.
The hold on her neck loosened for a moment and without a second thought, Ophelia used the small opening she had to push the attacker off of her and ran for the door.
Ophelia stumbled at first, her tiredness still wearing off and her neck aching but she ran for the door and didn't look back at the stranger she knew was running after her.
This wasn't going to be how her story ended.
They couldn't drag her here, put her in some cage, and then kill her like this.
It wasn't fair and Ophelia, though she was weak, would not allow it.
Ophelia opened the door and ran as fast as she could in search of a guard or the alpha. While she hated the role of playing the fake daughter, it should save her now.
"She's trying to kill me!" Ophelia yelled in hopes she would get someone's attention.
Now that she was running for her life, Ophelia noticed the lack of guards around where her room was located. It made it quite easy for someone dangerous to get to her and that happened tonight.
'Is he trying to kill me?' Ophelia wondered.
She didn't have any reason to believe Sylas didn't have some plot to kill her tonight.
"Oh, help!" Ophelia yelled, experiencing some relief when she spotted two guards. "She tried to strangle me in my sleep."
Ophelia ran to stand behind the guards. Luckily for her, the culprit had chased her. Her proof was there so no one could say she was making up stories but even if they tried to, Ophelia was certain there were marks on her neck to confirm the story.
Ophelia watched as the two men examined the stranger and then turned back to her. Their expressions rid her of any hope that they would be of some help to her.
"Sorry, Luna. We're hunters, not guards," one man replied, leaving Ophelia to fend for herself.
