Monster (2)

Sylas followed the sound of Ophelia's voice. It was one thing after the next for him to deal with. He gave her clear instructions which should have helped her get through the night without dying and gave orders to everyone else to avoid her so an attack would not happen yet it seemed no one listened to him.

Sylas came across Ophelia running away from a woman he knew all too well and no one batted an eye at her as she called for help.

It was expected and deserved because everyone here had been hurt by the Porters in some way.

Ophelia didn't have any other choice than to run to Sylas. He was her only hope since his guards did nothing to stop the stranger from attacking her. "She is trying to kill me," she informed Sylas.

Sylas looked behind Ophelia at Victoria, a woman who was the most vocal about disliking the union.

"Get out of the way," Victoria said, her sights set on Ophelia. "I can kill her and take all the burden of the punishments. Just turn away."

Ophelia looked to Sylas, waiting to see what he would do. He might not like her but she was still his mate now. This matter needed to be dealt with properly.

"You there," Sylas called to passing guards. "Escort Victoria back to her chamber and stand by the door. If she takes one step out then I will have your head."

"You are letting her leave?" Ophelia asked in disbelief.

It was clear as day that this woman wanted her dead. She even spoke of it yet he was allowing her to go?

Who was this woman to him?

No, why had he shown her a moment of kindness if he was going to turn around and be this way?

Despite how much Sylas hated Joel Porter, wasn't this too much?

"She tried to kill me," Ophelia repeated as though Sylas had not heard her the first time. "She tried to kill me and as the alpha, it is your place to punish her for it."

Ophelia stepped away from Sylas since she didn't view him as better than the woman standing before them.

Sylas grabbed Ophelia's arm to keep her near him. "Be happy you're still alive. Take her!" He ordered the guards, needing Victoria gone before she did something else foolish.

As she was taken away, Victoria kept her eyes on Ophelia. This wasn't over and the next time she was close to Ophelia, she would be dead.

"What were you thinking?" Sylas questioned Ophelia. "What you did to her eyes will only make the others angrier with you. You were to lay low."

Ophelia couldn't believe what she was hearing. She was attacked and rather than do something about it, Sylas thought it was more fitting to scold her for how she defended herself.

"I was attacked. You let her go without any punishment after she tried to kill me. What kind of alpha king are you?" Ophelia yelled, angry she was the only sensible one here.

She winced, hurt by how Sylas held her hand.

"The kind who sent Victoria away from you and placed guards at her doors. The kind who came to move you from wherever my beta placed you. If you'd like to see me kill Victoria for what she did tonight then you won't get it. She's suffered enough thanks to your family," Sylas shared.

"So, your plans and everyone else's plans are to punish me for what someone else did. Whatever my father did to you, I never had any part in it. I am innocent," Ophelia argued.

Sylas shook his head. The only innocent ones were the people harmed by Joel. "You reaped the benefits of what he did. Bastard or not."

Ophelia made her final judgement of the man Sylas was. Her final judgement of the alpha he was. "You're not better than him. You're a monster like the rumours say."

Sylas roughly grabbed Ophelia's face. She of all people didn't have any right to say that to him. "I was going to spare you. As long as we didn't cross paths and you lived here quietly, I wouldn't try to get revenge on your father by hurting you."

Sylas changed his mind. "Since you speak of rumours so much, I will show you a monster."

Sylas pulled Ophelia back in the direction of the room Rick had chosen for her. He had come with the intention of getting her a better room but she didn't deserve such kindness.

It wasn't right for him to treat her with such kindness before the people who were hurt by her father's ways.

Ophelia bit her lip, trying not to argue with him since it would only get worse.

He didn't need to show her what kind of monster he could be since Sylas was already one in Ophelia's eyes.

Sylas was heartless, cruel, and evil. He was everything that she heard around the town. For that, Ophelia wanted him dead just as much as she wanted the Porters dead.

All men like Joel and Sylas did was leave behind a trail of suffering.

"How are you any different from him when you hurt someone innocent? What kind of man are you to get revenge like this?" Ophelia questioned, unable to bite her tongue any longer. "Your fight should be with him, not me."

Ophelia fought to get her hand out of Sylas hold which caught the attention of others passing by. It wasn't the best idea when she was surrounded by his followers and those who hated her but Ophelia was at her breaking point.

She was trapped between two men who used someone to get what they wanted.

"Send me home if you don't care for me. We both know that I am not your mate. I didn't feel anything," Ophelia said.

All she had was his marking and no matter how painful it would be to remove it, Ophelia would do it so she could go back to Alex. All she wanted to do now was go somewhere far where she never had to see the likes of Joel Porter and Sylas Lucian again.

"Quit it!" Sylas yelled, his patience finally snapping.

All she did was put more of a target on her back.

"I could send you to the dungeon, chain you up somewhere outside to make a mockery out of you or have my way with you but the furthest I am going is to send you back to that room. I suggest you shut up before I start to consider my pack's ideas," Sylas warned Ophelia.
