Cursed (2)

Sylas travelled far out of the castle to meet with the witches he met years ago. They had helped him with potions to slow down the effects the curse had on his body, and recently, one of the two sisters spoke of having a way to find out if he had a mate.

In the woods, Sylas entered a small home filled with spiderwebs and the only light came from the fire under a large pot which was always cooking something when he came.

"Two visits in so little time. What can we do for the alpha?"

"Show yourselves," Sylas ordered the pair.

"Alpha, you haven't learned how to act when you step into a witch's home. For your tone, I could turn you into a frog. You'll be the alpha of frogs," Hannah, the youngest of the two sisters, joked.

Ester, the second witch, slapped her sister's head. "Your jokes are never funny. What have you come to us for? As you can see, we are busy brewing something."

"I want to know about my mate," said Sylas.

Ester rolled her eyes. "This again. I've already told you that we don't get involved in the plans of the moon goddess. She already hates us for the black magic we use. You'll find your mate by yourself."

Sylas looked to Hannah for answers since she was the one who helped him. "Hannah told me where to find my mate."

Ester couldn't believe her sister went behind her back. "Of the crazy things you've done this one just might be the one who gets us killed. They're supposed to figure out who is their mate themselves. Now that crazy Goddess will be after us for meddling."

Hannah seriously considered turning Sylas into a frog since he outed her. "I thought the sooner he found her, the sooner he would figure out how to break the curse. What I didn't expect was for you to come here and tell Ester what I did. She is against it."

"Of course, I am against it," Ester said, ready to gather her things and get far away from Sylas's pack. "You don't mess with the Moon Goddess's plans, especially concerning an alpha and his luna. We're going to be the ones turned into frogs."

"I won't speak of it," Sylas promised.

"You don't need to speak of it. The mere fact you were able to find a woman to mate with means someone did something they shouldn't have. Wait, since you found a woman to mate with, why are you coming to us to ask about it again?" Ester asked, puzzled.

Was he coming to get them to break the bond?

"I want your sister to confirm that I am with the woman she spoke of. Is there a way to know?" Sylas asked, hoping he would get his answers.

"You are with her," Hannah confidently spoke. "I have my ways of knowing."

"You may be with her since my sister has a special eye for seeing how people are connected-"

"The answer is right there in front of you. You can't see it but this eye I've ruined with black magic can. You've found her so go back to her," Hannah said, not understanding why he was here.

"I didn't feel anything. Nothing like the others described," Sylas explained.

"What my sister failed to mention when you came to her was meddling with mates meeting each other always has a bad effect. My foolish sister here changed the way you were to meet with your mate by telling you where she would be. Something bad always happens after. After the first time it went wrong, we vowed never to do it again," Ester explained.

"That seems right since she's the daughter of the man I want to kill," Sylas said, finding this to make more sense. "And the bond? Why can't I feel it?"

Ester shrugged her shoulders. "We don't have all the answers. If you want them, go find the Moon Goddess but she never answers since she has left this all in your hands. We are certain you've found your mate so go and figure out what is blocking you from feeling the bond."

Hannah started to pack her things since they might need to be on the run. "I am also curious why you don't feel the bond right away. Should I meet her?"

"No," Sylas declined the offer. "I was preparing to kill her father and all her family.

"Well," Hannah placed her hands on her hips. "It sounds like I stopped you from almost killing her."

"Or, he was going to meet her there and realise they were mates. He wouldn't have killed her then. Now, we will never know how they were going to realise they were meant for each other. Focus on finding out what's blocking that bond. For now, we have to hide," Ester said, ready to go.

"You are certain-"

"Yes!" Ester and Hannah yelled.

"Why are you questioning it? Sure, her father is a dirty man but it wasn't that long ago you were worried that a curse was stopping you from having a mate so enjoy it. Unless you've already treated her poorly," Ester suspected.

"We do have a spell that should help with her memory but I don't want to give it to you. You finally have what you've been asking for and you're not satisfied. If your mate doesn't love you then that's your fault. There has to be a reason why you're fated to be with that woman so figure out what's blocking the connection. Now," Ester started to push Sylas. "Get out."

Sylas was left once again with the same answer. He had never heard of something getting in the way of a bond between werewolves. That bond was meant to be so powerful that nothing could interfere with it so what happened?

Before Sylas could leave, Hannah went out to speak with him.

"I'm sorry. I should have told you that me looking into it could change the path for you and your mate. How I know you found your mate is this," Hannah said, holding his right hand. "Before, there wasn't much color to it but now it is bright red which means you found the person on the other side the red string of fate is tied to."

Hannah closed Sylas's hand. "As unfortunate as it sounds, you're not the first person to be tied to someone from the enemy side and you won't be the last. Instead of seeing this as another part of your curse, think of it as something good. You do have a mate."

"She came from the last place I wanted to find her," Sylas sighed.

"I think she's going to help break your curse. It's that or her being tied to you will bring destruction. Good luck figuring it out," Hannah said, leaving Sylas to find answers by himself. "I got to go pack."
