Chapter 16: Summoned by the Sect Master

Jiang Cheng followed Elder Ling Yue through the winding stone pathways of the sect. As they moved deeper into the inner sanctum, the usual chatter of disciples faded into an eerie silence. Only the occasional rustling of leaves and the distant roar of a waterfall could be heard.

His thoughts raced.

Why would the Sect Master summon me?

A direct meeting with the Sect Master was a rare honor, usually reserved for high-ranking disciples or those with immense potential. Jiang Cheng's recent growth had certainly drawn attention, but he didn't expect it to reach the ears of the Sect Master so soon.

The Inner Sanctum

Elder Ling Yue led him to a massive stone pavilion at the peak of the sect, where the Sect Master resided. Ancient formations shimmered faintly across the walls, reinforcing the powerful energy that surrounded the place.

As they approached the entrance, two elite disciples clad in silver robes stood guard. Their gazes were sharp, filled with authority. However, the moment they saw Elder Ling Yue, they stepped aside without question.

"The Sect Master is expecting you," one of them said, his voice respectful.

Jiang Cheng took a deep breath and stepped inside.

Meeting the Sect Master

The grand hall was vast, its walls adorned with murals depicting legendary battles. At the center, seated on an intricately carved jade throne, was Sect Master Xuan Tian.

His presence was overwhelming. His long white robes radiated a faint spiritual glow, and his deep-set eyes held the wisdom of countless years. He exuded an aura of absolute power—one that could crush weaker cultivators with mere intent.

Jiang Cheng immediately cupped his hands and bowed. "Disciple Jiang Cheng greets the Sect Master."

Sect Master Xuan Tian studied him in silence for a moment before speaking.

"You have made remarkable progress in a short time," he said. "Late Core Formation at your age… few disciples have advanced so quickly. Tell me, what is your path?"

Jiang Cheng hesitated for a moment before responding. "My path is one of strength—to break free from fate and carve my own destiny."

The Sect Master's eyes narrowed slightly, but a hint of approval flickered in them. "A bold answer. But to carve your own destiny, you must first survive the challenges ahead."

Jiang Cheng remained silent, waiting for the Sect Master to continue.

A Grave Warning

"There is a storm brewing," Sect Master Xuan Tian said. "Our sect is not the only power in this region. There are others—sects, clans, and hidden factions—who seek dominance. I have summoned you because your recent battle with Qin Feng has caught the attention of outside forces."

Jiang Cheng's expression remained calm, but inwardly, he was alert.

"The Blood Shadow Sect has begun to move," the Sect Master continued. "They have sent spies into our lands, and I suspect they are testing the strength of our disciples. Those who show great potential… may be targeted."

Jiang Cheng frowned. The Blood Shadow Sect—a ruthless sect notorious for assassinations, forbidden techniques, and cruelty.

"Are they coming after me?" he asked.

"It is possible," the Sect Master said. "But this is also an opportunity."

Jiang Cheng's eyes sharpened. "An opportunity?"

The Sect Master nodded. "We will soon hold a Grand Ranking Tournament—a competition where the strongest disciples will be chosen for elite training. If you wish to grow stronger, this is your chance. But be warned… the Blood Shadow Sect may send their agents to disrupt the tournament."

Jiang Cheng clenched his fists. So, the tournament is not just about ranking—it's a battlefield where dangers lurk in the shadows.

A New Task

The Sect Master leaned forward slightly. "I want you to participate… and win."

Jiang Cheng's heart pounded. Winning the tournament would put him directly in the spotlight—but it would also place a massive target on his back.

Still, he had no intention of backing down.

"I understand," he said firmly.

The Sect Master nodded in approval. "Good. Then prepare yourself. You have one month before the tournament begins."

Jiang Cheng bowed again. "I will not disappoint you, Sect Master."

As he turned to leave, the Sect Master's voice stopped him.

"Jiang Cheng."

He turned back.

"There is one more thing." The Sect Master's gaze became even more piercing. "Beware of Mo Tian."

A chill ran down Jiang Cheng's spine at the mention of that name.

"Mo Tian is more dangerous than you realize," the Sect Master continued. "His cultivation speed is unnatural… and there are whispers that he is connected to dark forces."

Jiang Cheng took in the warning carefully. "I will keep that in mind."

The Sect Master nodded, signaling the end of the meeting. Jiang Cheng left the hall, his mind filled with new concerns.

The tournament… The Blood Shadow Sect… And Mo Tian…

One thing was certain—the path ahead was about to become even more dangerous.
