First Time Fishing!

The Love Siren's deck was cluttered with piles of soggy wood and bundles of cloth. Aria kicked a heart-shaped plank, scowling.

"We've got enough for the stupid crafting table. Let's get this over with."

Lucas flipped open the Captain's Journal. The pages glowed pink as he navigated to the [Crafting] section.

"Okay, place the wood and cloth in the designated area. The system should handle the rest."

"Designated area?" Aria raised an eyebrow.

A section of the deck lit up with pulsing pink hearts. Aria rolled her eyes but dragged the materials into the glowing zone. The wood and cloth levitated, spinning in a whirl of rose-gold light.

THUNK!

A crafting table materialized—a pink monstrosity with heart-shaped legs and cupid carvings along the edges. Aria groaned. "Of course it's hideous."

Lucas ignored her, already tapping the table's surface.

"Fishing rod first," Aria said, leaning over his shoulder. Her damp ponytail brushed his arm.

[Crafting: Basic Fishing Rod]

[Materials Deducted: Wood -10, Cloth -5]

The table shuddered, gears clanking. With a poof of pink smoke, a fishing rod clattered onto the deck. Aria picked it up, her nose wrinkling.

"This is the dumbest thing I've ever held," she said.

[Item: Cupid's Angler]

[Quality: Basic]

[Effect: (from the ship) 50% chance to catch Romantic Items!]

[Effect: Small chance of attracting hostile creatures!]

The rod was hot pink, the handle shaped like a twisting ribbon. The hook dangled from a tiny golden heart.

"Romantic items? Hostile creatures?" Lucas scratched his head. "That's not what I exactly have in mind when I think about fishing."

Aria snorted. "Guess it's the price we have to pay then." She marched to the railing, baiting the hook with a scrap of cloth.

Lucas leaned against the mast, arms crossed. "Just throw the line in. The journal says romantic items can be converted into supplies too."

"Romantic items don't fill stomachs," she snapped, but cast the line anyway. The heart-shaped hook plopped into the waves.

For a full minute, nothing happened.

Then the rod jerked violently, nearly yanking Aria overboard.

"What the—?!" She dug her boots into the deck, muscles straining as she wrestled with the line. The water churned, something thrashing beneath the surface.

"Pull!" Lucas grabbed the rod, his hands brushing hers.

[Affection +1 (Current: 33/100)]

Aria growled. "Not. Helping."

They hauled the line in, inch by inch, until a creature burst from the waves.

It was… a fish. Sort of.

The thing had six bulging eyes, each a different neon color. Its body was slimy and translucent, revealing writhing organs inside. Dozens of spindly legs dangled from its underbelly, twitching like spider legs. The mouth split open vertically, revealing rows of needle-sharp teeth.

[Item: Abyssal Loverfish (Quality: Disgusting)]

[Effect: Restores 30 Hunger but reduces Sanity by 20. May cause nightmares.]

Aria dropped the rod. "Nope. Not eating that."

The fish flopped on the deck, legs scrabbling against the wood. One of its eyes burst, oozing green sludge.

Lucas gagged. "Yeah, hard pass." He kicked the monstrosity overboard. It sank with a gurgle, leaving a rainbow oil slick on the water.

Aria glared at the rod. "Your turn."

Lucas took the rod, his nose still wrinkled from the fish stench. He cast the line, and almost immediately, the rod bent double.

"Bigger one?!" Aria braced herself.

But when Lucas reeled it in, a dripping wet treasure chest landed on the deck. It popped open, revealing…

[Item: Box of Eternal Chocolates (Quality: Romantic)]

[Effect: Restores 10 Hunger. 50% chance to boost Charisma +2 for 1 hour!]

Aria snatched the box. The chocolates were heart-shaped, wrapped in gold foil. She peeled one open and sniffed.

"Smells like… strawberries?"

"Just eat it," Lucas said. "Before we have to catch another eyeball fish."

She bit into a chocolate. Her eyes widened. "Okay, this is… amazing."

Lucas popped one into his mouth too. The sweet, creamy flavor exploded on his tongue. His Hunger meter ticked up:

[Lucas' Hunger: 59 → 69/100]

[Aria's Hunger: 25 → 35/100]

[System Alert: Charisma Boost Activated! (Luca: Charisma +2 → Total 8)]

Aria licked chocolate off her thumb. "Why do I suddenly feel like… smiling?"

Lucas' cheeks flushed. The chocolate's effect made her sunburned cheeks glow, her sharp features softening. "Uh. It's the Charisma boost. Makes you… uh, friendly."

[Affection +3 (Current: 36/100)]

Aria's smile vanished. "Stop that."

"I'm not doing anything!"

She grabbed the rod. "My turn."

The next hour blurred between horror and hilarity.

Aria caught a [Giant Squidheart]—a pulsating heart with tentacles that tried to strangle Lucas before they chucked it overboard.

Lucas reeled in a [Cursed Pearl Necklace] that whispered marriage proposals until Aria smashed it with a plank.

But between the nightmares, they stockpiled:

[Eternal Chocolates x3 boxes]

[Love Letters (Burned Edges) x5 – Convertible to 10 Cloth]

[Perfumed Soap x2 – Restores 15 Sanity]

Aria sat cross-legged on the deck, sorting their loot. "At least we won't starve. But we need real food."

Lucas eyed the soap. "Could we… eat this?"

"Don't you dare." She tossed him a chocolate. "Stick to the magical candy."

[Global Chat]

[Breadbasket]: Trading flour for weapons! DM me!

[GunNut]: Shot down a seagull. Tastes like chicken. Sorta.

[SaltQueen]: PSA: Don't eat glowing fish. You'll hallucinate ex-boyfriends.

Lucas hesitated, then typed:

[LoveSiren]: Trading chocolates for meat/fruit.

Instantly, DMs flooded in:

[TinCanTony]: I'll trade mutant crab legs for 2 boxes!

[JungleJane]: Have mangoes. How many chocolates?

[DocHorror]: Chocolates safe? Or poisoned?

Aria peered over his shoulder. "Mangoes. Let's get vitamins."

They struck a deal with JungleJane: 1 chocolate box for 10 mangoes. A system prompt appeared:

[Initiate Trade?]

[LoveSiren gives: Eternal Chocolates x1]

[JungleJane gives: Tropical Mangoes x10]

"Do it," Aria said.

Lucas accepted the trade, yet was only met with a system message.

[ERROR: Ship Needs Upgrade Before Trading Unlocks!]

Aria frowned. "Okay, this officially sucks."

[LoveSiren]: Sorry mate, my ship level is too low for trading.

[JungleJane]: Still level 1? Gotta hurry up.

Lucas leaned back against the mast, a bit disappointed, but full from the chocolates. The moon shone on his face, the ship rocking gently. For a moment, it almost felt peaceful.

Then Aria screamed.

He bolted upright. She was staring at her hands—no, at the rod. Something massive had taken the line, dragging the tip into the water.

"Help me!" she yelled.

Lucas grabbed the rod. The force nearly dislocated his shoulders. "What is this? A whale?!"

The line zipped out, burning their palms. Aria wrapped the rope around the mast, bracing her legs. "Don't let go!"

The water erupted.
