Chapter 4: Unexpected Gains!

After making up his mind, Nick didn't continue digging. The storage room he was in wasn't a true dungeon in the strictest sense; it was just a small compartment carved out of the wall.

To dig, he had to go to the dungeon outside, but Nick wasn't sure about the monster's whereabouts. Going out rashly could put him in danger.

He wouldn't joke with his life.

Nick rested for a night in this temporarily safe storage room. With the resources he currently possessed, he didn't have to worry about survival for the next two days.

The only thing he needed to consider was the whereabouts of that dungeon monster.

If that monster had left the dungeon, he might be able to find some usable resources on those people, just like one of the game instructions said.

There was no shame in being a locust.

Early the next morning, Nick got up bright and early. After a night's rest, his mental state was much better than yesterday's.

He didn't use the precious water resources to wash up. After taking a small sip, Nick observed the movements outside the dungeon through the crack.

Apart from the scattered limbs and broken arms, the previous dungeon monster was nowhere to be seen. He estimated that it had followed the fleeing people into the next dungeon.

Nick didn't act rashly. He organized the previously obtained survival supplies in wooden boxes and used the miniature altar to gather the temporary camp.

After packing up, he opened the regional chat channel. Sure enough, after a night, the number of people in the region had dropped again to 877.

As for the missing people, they most likely died during exploration.

"After some time, how many people will be left in this area?"

Nick frowned slightly. He didn't have any other thoughts. In this situation where everyone was in danger, the life and death of others had nothing to do with him.

In certain circumstances, they might even have to resort to violence against each other.

After confirming that there was no danger outside the cave, Nick directly dug open the wall. The moment he stepped into the dungeon, the smell of blood assaulted his nostrils.

The hellish scene before him made Nick somewhat uncomfortable. He suppressed the chill in his heart and searched for usable supplies among the many corpses.

The harvest was meager, only some compressed biscuits, jerky, and other instant foods.

With survival being a problem, Nick wouldn't have any qualms. Even if he didn't eat them, he could trade them.

"Let's continue exploring..."

After calming down, Nick didn't want to stay in this pile of corpses any longer. Gathering resources was the most important thing right now.

He looked at the other directions, and the pale blue translucent light screen reappeared.

[Dig 5 meters to the left, and you might become food for a dungeon ghoul.]

[A group of dungeon bats nest in the cave on the right. If you want to become a dried corpse, you can choose this path!]

[Dig 9 meters upwards, and you will find nothing.]

[Dig 5 meters down, and you can obtain some survival supplies!]

Nick looked at the hints for the four directions. He didn't need to make a choice. He only had 10 digging opportunities per day, and maximizing his gains was the top priority.

He didn't hesitate and swung his shovel towards the dungeon below. Even if it was just some survival supplies, no one would complain about having too much.

After digging for less than five minutes, Nick jumped down and landed safely. The hint indicated that there was no danger in this dungeon, so he relaxed a bit.

The environment of this dungeon was almost no different from the other dungeons.

After digging up the faintly glowing spot, a broken wooden box with a rotten smell appeared before Nick.

The harvest was ordinary, only a few very hard pieces of bread, but it was better than nothing. It was better than wasting his effort.

As for the other faintly glowing spots in the dungeon, Nick didn't ignore them either. When a 1L bottle of pure water was found in a box, a satisfied smile finally appeared on his face.

In this stuffy environment, water resources were always the most important.

"There shouldn't be anything else..."

Nick looked around and, seeing no overlooked resource points, he turned his attention to the next dungeon.

[Dig 8 meters down, and you will fall from a great height and be severely injured!]

[Beware of the right side. The scorching lava in the dungeon can instantly take your life!]

[Your luck seems to be pretty good. Dig 6 meters to the left, and you can find a certain weapon in the dungeon!]

There was no option to dig upwards.

When Nick arrived in this cave, the passage back had already disappeared, and right now, his best option was undoubtedly to the left.

Being able to obtain a certain weapon was the most important thing for Nick. With food not being a concern, he had to consider his own safety.

With a handy weapon, Nick would have a foundation to stand on in the dungeon world.

He didn't hesitate and swung his shovel again. During the digging process, Nick couldn't help but wonder what kind of weapon it was.

With a distance of only 6 meters, and with the lure of a weapon, he dug through the dungeon in a very short time. Through the faint light, he could see the entire dungeon.

It was less than 20 square meters in size, and the stuffy air was filled with the smell of rust. Nick could even see rusted copper weapons on the ground.

Just by looking at this scene, Nick could roughly deduce that this should be a cold weapon arsenal. The only downside was that these weapons had been ruined over time.

If they had been properly preserved, Nick could have dealt with many crises with just these cold weapons.

"There should be other weapons here..."

Nick turned his attention to other locations. He didn't think the dungeon would be so mischievous as to make him waste a trip.

When he saw the light in the center of the dungeon, he knew that this reward would definitely not be bad.

With a hint of anticipation, he dug a few shovelfuls down, and a wooden box bound with iron appeared in Nick's sight.

If the box rewards had levels, this iron-bound wooden box should be the highest level Nick had encountered.

"I wonder what kind of weapon is in here..."

He slowly opened the box.

Before him was a black, simple hand crossbow, consisting of a bowstring and a crossbow stock. Just by looking at the style, Nick knew that it was not a modern object, but an ancient hand crossbow from some country.

And in the box, a bundle of crossbow bolts specially made for the hand crossbow lay quietly. The shiny arrowheads indicated their sharpness.

Nick gently picked up the hand crossbow. The moment he touched it, he felt a cold sensation and a heavy texture. It wasn't made of wood, but some unknown material.

The taut bowstring contained great power. Combined with the crossbow bolts, even if he faced dungeon creatures, he would have the power to protect himself.

"A hand crossbow... This is a good thing!"
