The First Rule of Power

Chapter 5: The First Rule of Power

The fallout from Kyle's humiliation spread like wildfire. By the next morning, everyone was talking about it. Don didn't even have to say a word—whispers carried the story for him.

"He walked right into it."

"Did you see his face?"

"Dude, Kyle lost to Don."

Kyle was nowhere to be seen. Smart. He was probably waiting for the rumors to die down.

But Don knew better. They never die down. They evolve.

Kyle wasn't just some random student. He had been somebody. A leader. A bully. Someone people feared.

And now?

He was weak.

And in a place like this, weakness was an invitation.

Don had made a move, and now others would follow.

It was time to teach them the first rule of power: You don't just take control. You keep it.

---

"Yo, Don."

Don turned to see three students approaching him in the hallway. He recognized them—Ryan, Marcus, and Jake. They had been part of Kyle's circle, but not loyal to him.

They were survivors. The kind of people who followed power, not people.

"We heard about what happened," Ryan said casually. "It was… impressive."

Marcus smirked. "Kyle had it coming."

Don leaned against the lockers, watching them. "And what do you want?"

Jake hesitated before answering. "We're just saying… if you ever need something, we're around."

Ah.

They weren't here to challenge him. They were here to join him.

Don smirked. "Good to know."

It was a small victory, but an important one. The moment people started offering their loyalty, you had truly won.

But there was still one loose end.

Kyle.

---

Don found Kyle sitting alone outside, away from everyone else. His clothes were fresh, his face clean—but the damage had already been done.

Kyle looked up as Don approached, his expression unreadable.

For a moment, neither of them spoke.

Then Kyle said, "You think you won?"

Don smiled. "I know I did."

Kyle let out a bitter laugh. "You don't get it, do you?"

Don raised an eyebrow. "Enlighten me."

Kyle stood up, meeting Don's gaze. "I lost because I got comfortable. I let my guard down. But you? You're just starting."

Don studied him, intrigued.

Kyle smirked. "Enjoy it while it lasts, Don. Because the higher you climb, the farther you fall."

It wasn't a threat. It was a warning.

But Don wasn't afraid.

He had already decided.

He wasn't just going to climb.

He was going to own the top.
