"You can't leave. We're expected to live here. My parents are moving out. My father has finally retired, so he's taking my mom away. Lily, Lucy, and Lila won't be living here either. They travel for their jobs—a lot. I don't think Adonis will come back here. He has his own life."

Heather laughed. Not genuine laughter. The kind filled with disbelief. She stared at him, shaking her head. "I'm not leaving my career behind to play pretend with you. The plan was that it'd be until I leave."
"You don't have to leave your career." Caius's voice was steady. "We'll just make the pretend marriage real."
