Jax had to agree that he was a little surprised at the lack of tension he felt at that very moment. He wasn't scared, nor was he feeling anything for the man he had just killed.
He hadn't realized he could be so heartless as to kill someone so easily. And yet, his wish was to save someone? He wondered why his wish would be that.
He stared at the remaining three, none of whom seemed to have expected this outcome in their wildest dreams.
"You... you killed him!"
"He was going to kill me first," Jax said simply. "What about the rest of you?"
The three looked as each other and nodded. Surprised as they were at their comrade's death, they didn't fear Jax. Instead, they were going to take revenge and kill him in revenge.
One of them stretched their arms out, the palms facing another person who began glowing with a subtle shade of green.
'The middle one is a Sorcerer,' Jax gathered.
The one on the left pulled out a bow at that moment.
The one on the right with the green glow moved suddenly, fast like the wind. He was already upon Jax, barely giving him a chance to dodge.
Jax dropped the axe in panic, as moving around with it was not feasible.
The man returned, dagger in his right palm, stabbing at Jax.
The man was too fast for Jax to do anything other than dodge. He tried targeting his feet to wrap his strings around them, but his movement made it unable to track when the feet were together, and Jax didn't want to give away what his spell was just yet.
'He's too fast for me,' Jax thought, his eyes moving toward the two that were on the other side. He could tell that it was the Sorcerer's doing that made this man fast.
'Is it a one-time spell? How long will it last? Or is it continuous?' Jax thought.
He glimpsed the man coming from the side and dodged the man's stab again. Or so he thought. When the man moved away, Jax felt a sting and a coldness on his lower abdomen. Looking down, he was bleeding.
He had been stabbed. The man held a dagger in his other arm.
Jax stumbled a little, the pain not reaching him just yet. He needed to drink a potion, but that action alone would give them time to kill him. He didn't have time to look for things in his Inventory.
'The Sorcerer first,' Jax thought. He stumbled a little as an act and suddenly moved.
Jax dashed toward the Sorcerer and the archer with no weapon with him at that moment.
The Sorcerer put their hands up, preparing to use another spell, while the one with the bow had their arrow nocked, ready to release.
Jax used his spell at the exact moment.
Divine Threads.
He jumped right after using it as a single long and pointed shard of ice landed where Jax had been right before. He barely got back up when the other man came stabbing from behind.
Jax moved at the last moment, but the dagger still ended up slicing through his ear. Had he been any later, the stab would've gone through his head.
The dagger in the man's hand changed direction at the last moment, gripping backward as he went for Jax's neck. Jax placed his arm up, blocking the stab. The man tried to stab at his chest with the other hand, but Jax quickly turned around and kicked that hand away.
The man began glowing green again. Jax hadn't noticed it earlier in his panic, but the man had stopped glowing at that moment.
'So it's a continuous spell,' he realized. If the Sorcerer stopped using the spell, the warrior would not be as quick.
The man moved, and Jax knew he had some time. He quickly brought out his dagger and knife as well. Both could play at this game.
He glanced at the two others quickly and saw them doing nothing. The Sorcerer was busy using his spell, so he couldn't do much, it seemed, and the archer was busy trying to figure out what was wrong with his bow.
He hadn't yet realized that Jax had tightly bound the bow and the arrow together using his threads. And since the thread had the wind element in them, they were both invisible and weightless, making it hard for the archer to figure out just what was wrong with it.
The pain in his stomach was increasing slightly, but it wasn't so bad. Pain helped him clear his mind at that moment, think faster.
The warrior came attacking with the daggers again, and Jax fought back. He was watching both hands and feet at that moment, searching for the time when he could use his spell.
He dodged another stab to the head and thrust his own knife to stab the man. The man dodged, retaliating with a cut to the arm. Jax flicked the knife downward, drawing blood.
The man grunted in pain, moving backward.
Jax moved to continue when he saw movement to the side. He looked just in time as an arrow was let go from the bow.
Jax tried to step back, but his leg slid on the rainy ground. He ended up slipping down, the arrow flying past above him.
The warrior returned, his daggers coming down on Jax.
Jax couldn't stop him now. Immediately, he used his spell, creating a large loop of thread that circled around the man and his arms, tying them up.
That would hold the man mere moments before he cut the threads, but moments were all Jax needed at this very moment. He spun on the ground, knocking the warrior off his feet.
As the warrior fell, Jax got back up, ready to stab him, but he had been keeping an eye on the archer to know that another arrow was coming.
He jumped away, rolling on the muddy ground as the arrow streaked past where he initially was. He arrived at his axe, which he immediately lifted above his head, and without giving anyone a single chance to defend themselves, he threw the entire thing as hard as he could.
The axe spun through the air at a magnificent speed, hitting the Sorcerer in the chest.
The Sorcerer slammed backward onto the ground, with the axe sticking out of his chest and blood spilling out onto the ground.
There was no doubt at that moment that the Sorcerer was dead.
