After waiting for long enough, the mushroom changed its color. It was fully red now, its face changing to one that made it look angry at all times.
Its back bulged a little, and two mushrooms, each the size of a human, popped out from its back. Those mushrooms could move, so they ran toward the archer and the sorcerer at the back, targeting the ones that weren't close in the fight all that time.
Now that the mushroom was red, it was time for him to get ready to steal the kill. That couldn't be any further away. As soon as they killed the two mushrooms and started hitting the boss, he would have to engage.
Jax took out a bunch of long threads and tied them around a tree. Since the crater was a dip, he would need help to pull himself out of it. He wondered how he was going to get the threads into the crater when suddenly he heard a small noise from the side.
He peeked his head out from behind the tree, looking to the side where a woman stood next to the crater, looking down at the boss.
Jax immediately recognized the woman as someone from the other party. She had moved to this area at some point.
The woman turned as well, noticing Jax. The moment the two looked at each other, they realized that they had both thought of the same idea.
The woman raised her palm, ready to use a spell.
Jax hid behind the tree, not giving her the opportunity. The woman pointed to the other side of the tree, but Jax didn't come out from there. He had hidden behind the tree.
The woman was ready to attack the moment Jax would show himself.
She saw the figure come from above the tree, and she immediately cast her spell. A large rock launched itself from the ground, striking high above. However, when the object fell down, what she saw instead was a large metal armor with a hole in the center.
She saw movement to the side and turned, ready to use her spell again, but her body suddenly went stiff at that moment, as if wrapped in tight clothing.
Jax appeared before her, power filling his fist as he punched the woman on the jaw. The single attack was enough to discombobulate the woman and knock her out. As soon as Jax knocked her out, he turned around to see if the time was right to attack the boss or not.
To his horror, he saw three pairs of eyes looking directly at him from the bottom of the crater. The archer and the two sorcerers had noticed him up there after the small kerfuffle.
Jax panicked right at that moment, not knowing what he should do now. He had been found out, but he couldn't leave either.
He looked at the other side of the crater at the four remaining members of the woman's party, who were looking at him with a stunned expression as well. Almost everyone had seen him.
'I should retreat,' Jax thought. That was the only good option here.
However, with the boss at the end of its life, he wanted to kill it. He had to. Anyhow.
He took a deep breath, pointed at the other side, and shouted, "Guys! They found us. Come on out!"
The sorcerer and the archer of the fighting party turned around and looked at the top of the crater behind them, noticing the other four people that were there. The shock of seeing one person on the other side was overshadowed by the shock of seeing four more.
To them, each person there was of equal threat. So, they dealt with each person equally.
It was unclear if the archer did it intentionally or if he let an arrow go flying in panic, but the arrow hit one of the people from the other party on their shoulder, who immediately shot down a ball of water toward them.
They were distracted by each other's attack.
That was all Jax needed.
Jax grabbed the threads that were tied to the tree and jumped down the crater, with his axe appearing on him.
One of the warriors, someone who used a spear, noticed him. He dodged the boss' arm sweep and dashed toward Jax at a rather fast speed.
Jax lifted his arm at the last moment and used his spell.
The man was fully wrapped in threads and ended up tripping over a rock before falling down.
Jax ignored the man, rushing toward the boss. He saw the boss sweep with its arm and knew he couldn't jump with the axe. So, he used all the force in his body and threw the axe toward the boss.
The axe landed on the boss's back, but it didn't kill him.
Without the axe, Jax easily dodged the sweeping attack from the boss, continuing forward. The other warrior appeared, but he too fell to Jax's spell, easily constricted.
Jax finally appeared by the boss and jumped onto its back where his axe was lodged into its body. He dislodged the axe and used all the force in his body to swing it again.
The axe landed on the boss' back with a loud thud, and a notification came to Jax's mind.
Light shined from the large mushroom boss as it slowly uprooted itself from the ground and fell to the side.
The stones and scrolls appeared next to Jax where he killed the boss.
Jax grabbed them all, put them and the axe into his inventory before running away for his dear life. The two soldiers were still wrapped in his threads, so he went past them, climbing back up using the threads he had left behind.
An arrow swished past him, nearly killing him, but Jax continued without looking back. Now that he had gotten what he had wanted, he needed to get the hell out of this place.
