STRANGE EVENTS

It's was a Monday morning and I woke up with an unbearable headache. I tried to shake my head to tone down the pain, but, that had to be the worst idea I had had since birth. "ugh…" I groaned, as I sluggishly slipped out of bed. I made it downstairs and rushed over to the medicine cabinet, I rummaged through the cupboard looking for the pain killers I took last night. I might have made such a racket and woken Stephen up, "Sam" I heard Stephen who was barely awake call my name, "mmm…yeah" I said, struggling to think clearly. While searching for the pain killers, I asked Stephen if he had seen them, "…no" he said rubbing his sleepy eyes, "really…do you…mm… do you know if mum or dad might have…ugh!... placed them elsewhere?", at this point I was about to drop to the ground. I paused and stood by the kitchen counter, holding onto the shelf to support myself.

I placed my hand on my forehead and it was hot! I couldn't think straight any longer, I reached out for a glass of water, my hands and the water in the cup were both shaking,

"um…Sam, are you ok?", "mhm…mm…yeah" I said, my eyes tightly shut, holding onto the edge of the counter so tight my knuckles turned white. "um…ok well, oh, now I remember, I woke up with a headache, so, I told mum when she got back from work, so she gave me the last one" he said, sounding fully awake. I opened my eyes slowly and looked towards the half full trash bin, and there it was, the empty packet of the last painkillers in the house, "oh…is that so…", as I said that, I slowly closed my eyes, relaxed my body, and, I instantly felt better. The feeling of invisible heavy bricks falling on my head was gone. I opened my eyes happily, but, they were forced shut by an overly bright light. "ugh…mm…wha-…" I grumbled as I tried to open my eyes as they struggled to adapt to the new lighting, my

vision was too blurred for me to see anything.

As I continuously blinked trying to clear my vision I saw a small figure by my side run away and I could hear indistinct chattering, I was so confused and scared that I soon later discover that I had not noticed that I had been laying down on a bed all this while I had been conscious. I quickly sat up with my heart racing and then I began hearing beeping noises and people telling me to keep calm. Everything was moving so fast, I was about to pass out, then a little boy with black hair and dark green eyes rushed in and hugged me, the room became quiet and I could hear what the little boy was telling me, he said, "it's okay Sam, it's me Stephen, I'm here with you, so is mum and dad, it's ok don't be scared". I finally woke up, again, I saw Stephen beside me holding my hand, and I saw my dad talking to a guy wearing a lab coat, and my mum sited beside Stephen. I sat up and Stephen woke up and my dad rushed over, "mm… what's going on…where am I?", I said, looking around the room while trying to stabilize my blurry eyes. "Sam…you're in the hospital".

The hospital? no I can't possibly be. I suddenly noticed the nurses and the doctors around my bed, I sat up and stared at

Stephen with so much questions running through my head, seems like he could tell I had questions that needed to be answered, "what is the last thing you remember?", Stephen asked while holding my hand, "…I…the last thing I can remember is me asking you about the pain killers…you…you said mom had given you the last one, I saw the empty packet in the trash, then…", " then what…", my mum asked eagerly, looking worried, "then I just kind of relaxed a bit because, I had the worst headache after waking up…and, after relaxing I felt a whole lot better", "really…is…is that all?", Stephen asked looking a bit more worried than before, "umm…yeah, I guess…did…did something happen to me", everyone went silent, Stephen looked at our parents, my dad gave a slight nod,"mum...dad...Stephen!", "Sam…after you calmed down…you fainted…you…you…I tried waking you up, but, you wouldn't budge, and when I opened your eyes…", Stephen paused and looked me dead in my eyes, searching them. I was extremely nervous about the next words Stephen was about to say but my curiosity was peeked, the suspense was killing me, "Steph-!", "they were pitch black!".

I jumped out of my bed in my hospital gown, frantically searching the room for something reflective. I grabbed the surgical tray, tossing all that was on it, as I stood with scalpels, syringes, tubes and other surgical tools scattered around my feet, I desperately tried to examine my eye using the back of the tray. I stood there still holding the tray to my face and my fingers around my eye, and after what felt like an hour I heard my name being called faintly "Sam..." I was still stuck in my head trying to figure out why what happened actually happened. "Sam!" This time it was loud and clear and I felt a hand touch my shoulder delivering a gentle shake but strong enough to snap me back to reality. I blinked twice and turned my head to the voice calling my name, it was Stephen, "Stephen?..." I said questionably as the tray was slowly taken from me by my dad and handed to the doctor apologetically, my mother and father both helped me back to my bed as they could see I was still in a daze. They laid me down and left Stephen by my side who with a worried face still held my hand tightly. I could hear my parents talking to the doctor asking if I'd be alright, but I began to feel lighter and lighter and I as I slowly drifted out of consciousness, their voices got further and further away till everywhere was silent.
