Chapter 14 Cartier Watch

Explaining and justifying himself would only make others despise him more. Only with huge amounts of money, buying luxury cars and villas, could he slap in the face those who despised and mocked him.

Only then would everyone's perception of him change.

And now, he had a shortcut right in front of his eyes.

If he completed the system's mission, he could instantly get a reward worth a million yuan.

All he had to do was figure out how to sweet-talk his wife into accepting his "domination."

"Ding dong, ding dong!" The sound of his mobile phone snapped him out of his thoughts.

Li Bin, stopped at a red light, grabbed his phone to see it was a call from his wife, Wen Wan.

"Hello, Wan'er, what's up?" He answered, adjusting his tone to sound softer and more affectionate.

"Li Bin, I'm sorry... Today my dad went too far... I..." Barely had the conversation started when he heard his wife's guilty voice.

"It's fine, I'm used to it. As long as you support me and believe in me, I don't care what others say or think. Wan'er, please trust me, I can do it. Just give me one more month, okay? If I don't achieve anything in a month, then I'll look for a formal job." Li Bin responded tenderly over the phone.

If it were before, Li Bin would have responded impatiently and superficially to Wen Wan's concerns.

But now, after the system's prompts, he recognized his own mistakes. To fully conquer his wife, he needed to change his attitude.

After so many years, Wen Wan had also had it tough.

"Of course I believe in you, Li Bin, are you okay? Do you... want me to come out and keep you company?" Wen Wan was still worried.

"I'm fine, I'll go out for a bit and be back soon. Tonight... we should go to bed early... heh, heh." Li Bin let out a playful chuckle.

"What are you saying?! You're incorrigible! What are you thinking now?" Wen Wan's voice on the phone clearly sounded embarrassed.

After hanging up, Li Bin headed to the biggest Wanda shopping mall in the area.

Back home, everyone had already retreated to their respective rooms, the dinner ending in a tense atmosphere.

His father-in-law's Audi A6L was no longer in the garage—probably out playing mahjong.

Li Bin, with a mysterious air, climbed the stairs carrying a gift bag.

From Wen Lan's room on the second floor, her sobs could be heard.

Li Bin wanted to go in and comfort her, to improve their relationship, but with his mother-in-law and wife at home, it wasn't the right moment.

Anyway, Wen Lan was on summer vacation and would have plenty of time during the day.

Reaching his room, he found Wen Wan alone, working on some embroidery.

Knowing his wife's phobia of dirtiness, Li Bin went to the bathroom first, turned on the tap to fill the bathtub with warm water, scattering petals and bath bombs he'd specially bought at the mall.

After preparing everything, he returned to the bedroom.

Seeing Li Bin back, Wen Wan asked with a smile, "Where have you been? So mysterious..."

She then noticed the gift bag in his hands.

"Honey, you've been through a lot lately. This is to thank you for your support and help. I feel so lucky to have met you, you're the greatest blessing in my life, Wan'er, I love you."

Today, Li Bin seemed like a completely different person. Before, he'd never said those words, not even when he was courting Wen Wan—he'd never said "I love you."

Seeing the gift and hearing such romantic words from her husband, Wen Wan blushed, her heart filled with joy and a bit of disbelief, almost not recognizing the man she'd been married to for over a year.

"Oh, we're an old married couple now... How can you be so embarrassing?... With your income... why are you buying me gifts?" Though she said she didn't want them, her hands anxiously opened the gift bag.

"Ah!..." Seeing the box inside the bag, Wen Wan covered her mouth in surprise.

"Oh! No!... Cartier!..." With trembling hands, she opened the box and widened her eyes in astonishment.

Inside was a dazzling Bvlgari Serpenti Tubogas watch.

The silver dial and white ceramic bracelet—wasn't this exactly the watch she'd always wanted but never dared to buy?

"Li Bin! Have you gone crazy? Where did you get so much money? This watch costs over thirty-five thousand! How..."

"Honey, let me put it on you, let's see if it suits you." Without waiting for Wen Wan to react, Li Bin took the watch out of the box and tenderly, carefully placed it on her wrist: "Honey, I know you've wanted this watch for a long time, but you never dared to buy it. So today, with the money from my new manuscript, I went and bought it for you, do you like it?"

Li Bin looked at her affectionately, saying passionately: "Honey, you look stunning with it, it's like it was made just for you..." Though his words were light, his heart was bleeding.

His savings weren't enough to buy this watch, and to do so, he'd not only used up all his savings but also maxed out his credit card and taken out quick loans to the limit.
