Caelan's expression twisted for a moment, his hand gripping the phone so tightly it turned white.
He was silent for a few seconds, causing the person on the other end to wonder if there was a problem with the call quality, repeatedly asking:
"Hello, can you hear me clearly? You're Lavender's partner Caelan, right? We've finished cremating Lavender's remains, and we need you to come collect them."
Faye tugged at Caelan's sleeve.
Caelan snapped out of his daze, forcing out a few words through gritted teeth:
"Alright, I'm coming now."
I looked at him suspiciously.
Did Caelan really believe I was dead? He didn't have any doubts at all?
Soon after, Caelan and the others arrived at the funeral home.
A funeral home employee brought out an urn and said to Caelan:
"These are Lavender's ashes. Please accept our condolences."
Caelan reached out to take it, but in the next second, he deliberately let it slip from his hands, allowing the urn to crash to the ground.
