Chapter 23: The Pack of Wolves' Night Raid

Qi Si'an hooked his thin lips, raised his hand and held Pan Yueqing's hand that was pointing in front of his nose. The smile on his face didn't fade. "What's wrong? Dare to secretly harm me, but not dare to die?"

"It's just a weed. Even the heavens are too lazy to take in someone like you," Pan Yueqing broke free from Qi Si'an's hand, raised her sleeve and wiped her lips with difficulty, giving Qi Si'an a glare. Qi Si'an didn't have the strength after all. He covered his chest and chuckled twice, took three steps back, leaned against the stone wall, and slowly sat down on the ground with his eyes slightly lowered.

"I'll go out and see if there's anything to eat," Pan Yueqing stood up. Seeing that Qi Si'an didn't react, she simply ignored him and walked out of the cave entrance. There were few people in the forest, and the grass and leaves were lush. She broke off a long branch and waved it around in the grass, afraid of stepping on snakes.

After a while, she took off her outer garment, turned it inside out, and wrapped a bundle of dry firewood and dead leaves. Just then, she saw a rabbit in the grass not far away. Pan Yueqing swallowed slightly, raised the long stick, and chased the rabbit for a short distance. When she finally caught the rabbit and stood up and turned around, she happened to see a patch of garden burnet.

Garden burnet can cool the blood and stop bleeding. Pan Yueqing held the struggling rabbit and looked at the patch of garden burnet with a slightly cold gaze. She clicked her tongue and murmured to herself, "Qi Si'an really has a life that fate doesn't want to take. I didn't even intend to look for medicinal herbs for him, but such a large patch of garden burnet just appeared in front of me..." She then let out a sigh and silently started digging up a handful of garden burnet roots.

On the way back to the cave along the original path, she also picked a lot of wild fruits and vegetables. She stacked the dry firewood into a pile and skillfully started a fire. She warmed her hands over the fire for a while. Looking at Qi Si'an's pale lips, Pan Yueqing rested her chin in her hand and asked, "When will your people arrive?"

"I don't know," Qi Si'an slightly opened his eyes. The faint firelight reflected in his eyes. His lips were still pale without any sign of returning to a normal color. Pan Yueqing stood there with her slender figure, resting her chin in her hand. The shadow of the young girl under the firelight was cast on Qi Si'an's face. Qi Si'an saw the bone-chilling coldness on Pan Yueqing's face. The corner of Qi Si'an's mouth curled slightly, and he looked at Pan Yueqing's bright black and white eyes. "What? Or do you want to hear some words of comfort?"

"You really want me to die with you?" Pan Yueqing said softly, looking away. She squatted down and quickly plucked all the fur off the rabbit. Then she roasted the rabbit over the fire for a while to make sure it was clean. She raised a long branch, passed it through the whole rabbit, and placed it on the fire. She silently put the washed garden burnet roots beside the fire and threw a washed wild fruit to Qi Si'an. "Eat it to ease your hunger."

"What are those things on the ground?" Qi Si'an didn't have time to raise his hand. The fruit hit his arm and rolled on the ground twice. He simply didn't pick it up and just turned his gaze to the garden burnet roots that Pan Yueqing had laid out in a circle.

"Garden burnet roots. They can cool the blood and stop bleeding," Pan Yueqing glanced at Qi Si'an. She held the long stick and turned the rabbit around, evenly smearing it with the naturally salty seepweed leaves. A mocking smile appeared on her face involuntarily. "No wonder you're so lucky. I found garden burnet while catching a rabbit..."

Qi Si'an touched his nose and pointed to the wild fruit on the ground. "It's already dirty."

"You're not missing an arm or a leg, are you?" Pan Yueqing rolled her eyes at him in her heart and continued to evenly smear the rabbit with wild vegetable juice. She had no intention of getting up to pick up the fruit for Qi Si'an at all.

"Miss Yue, I'm really hungry," Qi Si'an raised a smiling face, pointed to the fruit beside him, and looked at Pan Yueqing with a smile in his eyes. Seeing that Pan Yueqing didn't move at all, he pouted and said, "My back hurts..."

Pan Yueqing couldn't help but roll her eyes so hard. She let out a long sigh, got up, walked a few steps, picked up the fruit, wiped it on her clothes, held the wild fruit with her distinct fingers, and stretched it in front of Qi Si'an. She said in an unfriendly tone, "Here you go. This little woman will show some consideration for the Young Master Shen who has a hurt back and seems to have lost the use of his hands and feet."

Qi Si'an raised his hand to take the wild fruit and took a bite. The slightly sour juice of the wild fruit made his teeth ache. After regaining his composure, he looked up at Pan Yueqing. "How are we going to spend the night tonight? There might be wild beasts in this desolate mountain."

"I'm completely sure of one thing," When Pan Yueqing heard Qi Si'an mention the possibility of wild beasts, her hand holding the skewer of rabbit meat paused slightly. She met Qi Si'an's inquiring gaze with a slightly cold look in her eyes and said seriously, "You really sincerely want to drag me to see the King of Hell with you."

Qi Si'an slightly raised his eyebrows. Then he saw Pan Yueqing pick up two garden burnet roots on the ground, put them on a stone, and spent a long time laboriously knocking them with a stone. Then she wrapped the powder with a large leaf and walked up to Qi Si'an, raising her chin slightly. "Take off your clothes. I'll apply the medicine."

Qi Si'an raised his peach blossom eyes. The mole of tears under his left lower eyelid was particularly obvious as he tilted his head back. He took a deep look at the leaf in Pan Yueqing's hand. In the end, he still stood up, untied his belt, and took off his clothes, revealing a body full of scars. The knife wound on his back had opened again, and the blood had stained all the bandages. The flesh was curled up and stuck together with sweat. Qi Si'an turned around, closed his eyes, and the hole in his left shoulder was still as obvious as ever.

Pan Yueqing slowly raised her hand and picked up some powder to smear on Qi Si'an's already blackened shoulder wound. There was not much emotion in her eyes. When her fingertips touched the wound, she clearly felt Qi Si'an flinch instantly. She then sprinkled the remaining powder on the knife wound on his back. Seeing that Qi Si'an's chest was heaving with pain, she finally lightened her movements.

After applying the medicine, they were at a loss because there were no bandages to wrap the wound. Afraid that the blood-stained black tight-fitting clothes would cause the wound to become inflamed again, before Qi Si'an could react, Pan Yueqing grabbed the clothes that he had taken off and was wearing around his waist and tied them behind her back. "I'll wash them for you."

"Why are you being so kind all of a sudden?" Qi Si'an didn't dare to lie down. He just held onto his pants with one hand and walked towards the fire. "You can wash them yourself too," Pan Yueqing pouted and said unkindly.

Just as Pan Yueqing hadn't left the cave entrance, she heard some movement at the entrance. She raised her hand and made a gesture for Qi Si'an to be quiet. She closed her eyes, tilted her ear to listen, and instinctively felt that it was the sound of animal fur rubbing against the grass and shrubs, as well as the sound similar to a dog's panting.

As soon as this sound reached her ears, it was like a nightmare exploding in front of her.

It was wolves!

The panting sound was getting closer... Pan Yueqing raised her eyes to meet Qi Si'an's. Qi Si'an had already placed his hand on the long sword on the stone wall beside him. Fear appeared in Pan Yueqing's eyes, and her lips trembled. "A pack of wolves..."

Qi Si'an's face also changed. He instinctively picked up the firewood from the firewood pile, stood up with difficulty, and said to Pan Yueqing, "Quick! Start a fire at the entrance! Wild beasts are afraid of fire!"

Pan Yueqing nodded and quickly picked up the remaining firewood and piled it at the entrance. Out of the corner of her eye, she saw several pairs of green eyes in the bushes outside the cave, staring hungrily into the cave through the dark night.

Qi Si'an lit the fire. He was in so much pain that he instinctively let go of the hand holding his pants and leaned against the stone wall. Seeing the fire quickly flare up, he was about to turn around and give Pan Yueqing a smile. But he saw that Pan Yueqing's face was flushed under the firelight. Just as he was wondering why, Pan Yueqing slapped him across the face, and then crossed her arms in front of her chest. "Are you being a pervert?"
