Chapter 109: Creating Supernatural Illusions

"Commander Qian already knew that Master Baoshan was dead. He couldn't have sent someone to look for Master Baoshan!" The old man wasn't very tall. When he stood in front of Pan Yueqing, he only reached up to her ear. He gritted his teeth as he spoke, his voice filled with resentment and a bit of the mockery of a cat playing with a mouse.

Pan Yueqing instinctively felt a chill run down her spine and her body stiffened slightly. Su Ruoqing frowned slightly at Pan Yueqing, signaling her not to act rashly. Because he could clearly see that a small knife was only an inch away from pressing against Pan Yueqing's waist. Pan Yueqing exhaled a long breath and said slowly, "This knife has killed a lot of people, hasn't it?"

Su Ruoqing frowned and looked at Pan Yueqing with some confusion.

"I don't think it's really worth it," Pan Yueqing clicked her tongue. "You've gone to so much trouble to guard this place, but it's been sold out in the blink of an eye. What's the point of all this?"

In an instant, the tip of the knife was turned towards her back, and it was about to pierce through her clothes and into her flesh. Pan Yueqing didn't move. She let out a snort, which made the night watchman behind her stunned. She heard him growl in a low voice like a wild beast, "What are you laughing at?! Do you want to die?!"

"I don't want to die," Pan Yueqing stopped laughing and said calmly.

Whether I live or die is actually not up to me. Just like whether you live or die is not up to you either. Do you think how did we find this place? Commander Qian has already confessed about the gold you've hidden here!" Before the other party could speak, Pan Yueqing said in a calm voice, sounding as if she had the upper hand.

"It's impossible!" The night watchman roared loudly, but the blade in his hand didn't move an inch closer. After the period of intense anger, he calmed down and gave Pan Yueqing a strange smile. "You said he confessed. Then tell me where he said the gold is?"

Pan Yueqing opened her mouth. By the light of the candlestick in Su Ruoqing's hand, she looked around. How could she know where the thing was? She had originally intended to deceive him, but she didn't expect this old thing to react so quickly. She let out a slow sigh and said mysteriously, "It's right in front of us."

Unexpectedly, the old man's hands were shaking more and more. In the blink of an eye, Su Ruoqing threw the candlestick at his face. The hot wax splashed all over the old man's face, and the candlestick hit his forehead the moment he instinctively turned his head. Pan Yueqing stepped forward with a graceful movement and turned around. She drew out her three-foot-long sword from her waist and pointed it directly at the night watchman's face.

"You think you can just rely on your mediocre skills..." The night watchman opened his hands. The burned part of his face turned red, making his face even more ferocious. But before he could finish his words, there was a sound of an arrow being shot, and it hit the back of his neck. The door of the Main Hall was suddenly pushed open. Xiaoshi Tou was holding a crossbow, looking flustered, nervous, and frowning with concentration.

The night watchman turned his head in pain and stared at Xiaoshi Tou at the door with one eye bigger than the other. Xiaoshi Tou let out a scream, closed his eyes, and pressed the crossbow again. Another arrow flew through the air and pierced into the night watchman's body. The night watchman stumbled and bent down, then raised his head and sneered as he struggled to stand up. He stretched out his withered hands and lunged towards Xiaoshi Tou.

"Be careful!" Li Zhe's figure appeared behind Xiaoshi Tou. He wrapped his arms around Xiaoshi Tou's waist and pulled him back. He took out the silver needles from his waist and shot them out. The needles hit the key points of the meridians on the night watchman's legs. The person who had been extremely ferocious a moment ago could no longer control his legs. His feet felt as if they were filled with lead, and he crouched in place, with his upper body falling forward onto the ground.

Pan Yueqing loudly stopped Li Zhe, who was holding the silver needles in his hand.

Li Zhe was stunned by her stern shout. The next moment, when he was about to take action again, Su Ruoqing's long sword was already placed on the night watchman's neck. "This person is useful to us."

Li Zhe looked up at him. The tip of the needle glinted in the sunlight. Xiaoshi Tou looked up and said, "Young Master..."

Li Zhe put away the needles, stood up with his arms around Xiaoshi Tou's waist, and said with a hint of disappointment, "Do you know that you almost died just now?!" Then he glanced sideways at Pan Yueqing, who was leaning against the door frame and gasping for breath. "Didn't I tell you that people from the government won't protect us commoners and lowly people?!"

These words left Pan Yueqing speechless. In that split second just now, she really hadn't been able to protect Xiaoshi Tou, and this child had almost been in a life-and-death crisis to save her. Even though Su Ruoqing was unhappy, he had nothing to say under Li Zhe's veiled criticism.

"Miss!" Luo Shui arrived with the soldiers. She frowned, feeling annoyed that once again she wasn't by the miss's side. Pan Yueqing's face was pale. When she heard Luo Shui's voice, she almost forced herself to speak, "Did you find any clues?"

Luo Shui slightly shook her head. She looked up at the soldiers who were coming back one after another. After getting a unified answer, she lowered her eyes in disappointment. Su Ruoqing ordered the soldiers to tie up the night watchman tightly and take him out. Just as they were about to leave, he suddenly had an idea. He rushed excitedly to the huge Buddha statue enshrined in the middle of the Main Hall. He raised his sword and swung it with all his might towards the lotus pedestal under the statue.

Pan Yueqing was just about to open her mouth to persuade him that it was useless because in her previous life, the whereabouts of that batch of gold had been unknown.

But before she could speak, Su Ruoqing's sword actually chipped a gap, and a small, golden "stone" fell from the petal of the lotus pedestal. He bent down and picked it up, then turned around and smiled at Pan Yueqing. "I think we've found that batch of gold." Then he pointed at a soldier and said, "You, go and report to my father immediately!"

"Wait," Pan Yueqing turned around and looked at the tall Buddha statue. She reached out and held Su Ruoqing's arm, signaling him to wait a moment. "I have other uses for it." Then she turned to look at the soldiers standing there and let out a sigh. "I'm sorry to trouble you all to clean this Buddhist hall."

After saying that, she was about to leave. Su Ruoqing looked at her back and instinctively chased after her. "What are you going to do?"

"Create an illusion and ask for the truth in front of the Buddha," Pan Yueqing stopped. Seeing the night watchman tied behind the horse, a gloomy look filled her eyes. This person deserved to die, but not now, and he couldn't die so easily.

After about the time it took to burn a stick of incense, Pan Yueqing and Su Ruoqing stopped their horses in front of the courier station. The sky darkened for no apparent reason. Pan Yueqing suppressed the killing intent in her eyes and signaled the soldiers guarding the door to take the night watchman they had captured all the way back in through the back door and guard him strictly. When she pushed open the hanging flower door, she saw the secretary of Suoyue City standing there with his legs shaking like a sieve. Pan Haiyun and Qian Cheng were toasting each other, and the account books beside them were stacked half an arm high. Qian Cheng sat on the stone bench, constantly smiling obsequiously.

"Father," Pan Yueqing stepped forward and said in a deep voice, sounding just like a young man's voice. She cupped her hands and bowed to Pan Haiyun.

Pan Haiyun looked up at Su Ruoqing, who was covered in dirt, and couldn't help frowning. Putting on an air of authority, he said sternly, "Didn't I ask you to invite the master here?"

"The master..." Pan Yueqing cupped her hands, her voice sounding a bit hesitant.

Pan Haiyun slapped the table. "You can't even do such a small thing well!"

Pan Yueqing and Su Ruoqing knelt down in response. Pan Yueqing raised her head. "Father, please calm down. I met Master Baoshan today, but he refused to come with me. He said that only when you and Commander Qian go to invite him will he come..."

Master Baoshan is already dead!! When Qian Cheng heard this, his hand holding the teacup could no longer hold it steady. He lost his grip and the cup fell to the ground. The secretary beside him could no longer hold on and fainted with a cry.
