A cold silence settled between Akira and the woman in the black tech-suit. His mind raced, processing everything—his enhanced body, the sterile facility, the cryptic words she had just spoken.
Techno-Mancy? Prototype?
None of it mattered. He wasn't going to be anyone's experiment.
Akira's fists clenched, and an unfamiliar power hummed beneath his skin—a static charge pulsing in his fingertips. He didn't know what they had done to him, but he could feel it, coiling like a beast ready to be unleashed.
The woman—Dr. Lena Ramirez—studied him, her cybernetic visor flickering with data.
"You're experiencing the neural sync," she said. "Your body is adapting to the cybernetic enhancements. Increased reaction time. Heightened reflexes. Access to the digital grid. You're—"
Akira didn't wait for her to finish.
With speed that shouldn't have been possible, he lunged.
His enhanced muscles exploded with power, closing the distance in a heartbeat. He aimed for her throat—
And missed.
Ramirez sidestepped with mechanical precision, a flick of her wrist sending a shockwave pulse slamming into his chest. The force sent him crashing into the metal wall, the impact rattling his cybernetic limbs.
Akira gritted his teeth. Damn. He wasn't used to this new body yet.
"Impressive," Ramirez mused. "Your neural interface is adapting even faster than I anticipated."
Akira forced himself up. "Not interested in your science talk."
A low alarm began to blare in the distance. Security was coming.
Ramirez sighed. "You can fight me, waste time, and get captured again. Or…" She gestured to the door. "You can escape."
Akira narrowed his eyes. "Why help me?"
A smirk crossed her lips. "Because MegaCorp doesn't deserve to own something as powerful as you."
Footsteps echoed down the hall. The enforcers were near.
Akira exhaled sharply. He didn't trust her, but he had no choice.
"Where's my gear?" he asked.
Ramirez tossed him a combat utility belt. "Take this. Your weapons are down in Storage Level B. But first—"
She tapped a command into her wristpad, and the room's lights flickered violently before plunging into darkness.
"—we need to get past the guards."
The facility erupted in chaos.
Time to break out.
