Chapter 15: The Escape from Erebus Corp

The screeching alarms drowned out every other sound.

Akira snatched the Orion Drive from its pedestal, feeling the pulse of energy thrumming within its sleek metal casing.

A robotic voice boomed from the facility's speakers.

> "Unauthorized access detected. Security lockdown engaged."

Metal blast doors slammed shut. Red warning lights bathed the entire room in an ominous glow.

Kael cursed. "You just had to touch it, didn't you?"

Ramirez pulled her weapon. "Forget that—MOVE!"

From the ceiling, turret guns unfolded.

Drones dropped from hidden compartments. Their sleek, insect-like bodies whirred as they locked onto the intruders.

"Targets acquired. Lethal force authorized."

Akira didn't hesitate.

BZZT!

His cybernetic fingers sparked as he overloaded the nearest drone's circuits, sending it crashing to the floor.

Ramirez fired two precise shots—BANG! BANG!—taking out another.

Kael activated a holo-shield, deflecting a burst of energy rounds as he shouted, "We need an exit NOW!"

Akira's HUD scanned the vault walls—and there it was.

A maintenance hatch.

"Over there!" he yelled.

Kael rushed forward, slamming his cyber-blade into the control panel. Sparks flew, and the hatch slid open.

One by one, they jumped through, landing in a narrow maintenance tunnel.

Above them, the drones screamed in frustration, unable to follow through the cramped space.

Ramirez exhaled. "That was close."

Kael smirked. "Too close."

Akira checked the Orion Drive—still intact.

"Let's keep moving," he said.

They sprinted through the tunnel, following Akira's HUD toward an exit.

But just as they reached the end—

A massive shadow blocked their path.

Something—or someone—was waiting for them.
