William kept looking at Elena through the rearview mirror when he suddenly felt someone's intense gaze on him. He turned his eyes to the other side and saw Eric staring at him with a burning look. William immediately understood the meaning behind Eric's gaze and quickly shifted his focus back to driving.
Elena's eyes were fixed outside, lost in the passing scenery, while Eric's attention was on his laptop.
After driving some distance, Eric commanded, "Stop at Thomas Villa."
William, confused, glanced at Eric through the rearview mirror. Without looking up from his laptop, Eric said again, "You don't need to look at me, just do as I say—stop the car at Thomas Villa."
William couldn't understand why, but since Eric had ordered him, he had no choice but to comply. A few minutes later, the car halted outside a grand mansion—Thomas Villa.
Even though he had stopped the car, William's mind was flooded with questions—
What business did Eric have at Thomas Villa?
Thomas wasn't just any doctor—he was the one who had issued Emma's death certificate and given Elena a new identity. In short, Thomas was the only person who knew the truth—that Emma was dead and Elena was merely her substitute.
Lost in thought, William was startled when Eric's voice reached his ears—
"Go inside. Some of your questions will be answered there."
William was taken aback. Why was Eric sending him inside Dr. Thomas's house?
Curiosity getting the better of him, he stepped out of the car and started walking towards Thomas Villa. He had barely taken a few steps when Eric called out, "William, come back."
William turned around and walked back toward Eric, who handed him a cheque and said, "When you go inside, you'll meet Mrs. Thomas. Give this to her and tell her that this is the result of Dr. Thomas's hard work."
Without questioning, William took the cheque and headed toward the villa. However, the moment he stepped inside, his eyes widened in shock.
Right in front of him was a large framed picture of Dr. Thomas, surrounded by grieving family members dressed in black.
William's mind froze.
Dr. Thomas was dead!
Suddenly, everything clicked—Dr. Thomas was the only person who knew the truth about Eric, Emma, and Elena.
Which meant... his death was no accident. He was murdered.
And the murderer? None other than Eric himself!
As soon as this realization hit, William's heartbeat quickened. His throat went dry.
At that moment, Mrs. Thomas approached him and asked, "Yes, how can I help you?"
Already shaken, William fumbled for words, and in his nervousness, the cheque slipped from his hands and fell to the ground.
Seeing the cheque, he remembered Eric had told him to give it to Mrs. Thomas. He quickly picked it up and handed it over, saying, "This is the remaining payment for Dr. Thomas's surgery. He had treated my boss's wife, but the payment was pending. I came here to settle it today."
Mrs. Thomas looked at the cheque, her face turning sorrowful. Taking a deep breath, she said in a heavy voice, "What's the use of this money now when my husband is no longer with me?"
William could understand her pain, but he couldn't tell her the horrifying truth—
that the man responsible for her husband's death was standing right outside.
Feeling suffocated in the grieving atmosphere, he quickly bid farewell and stepped out of the house.
As soon as he was outside, his eyes fell on Eric, who was standing beside the car, staring at him with a sinister smirk.
William walked toward Eric cautiously, and at the same time, Eric took slow steps in his direction.
Trying to control his anxiety, William asked, "Eric, what is all this? You said that—"
Before he could finish, Eric interrupted him with a cold smile, saying, "Perhaps you've forgotten, William—I never do anything that could get me into trouble."
After a pause, Eric locked eyes with him and continued, "Anyone who knows my secret will leave this world."
With that, he patted William on the shoulder and flashed the same sinister smirk before getting into the car.
At that moment, William fully grasped the situation—
Eric had just given him a direct warning.
Now, only three people knew the truth—Eric, Elena, and William.
And apart from them, no one else would ever know…
