When we returned to the camp. We entered the classroom; it was clear we were late. The moment we stepped in, all eyes turned to us. The room buzzed with murmurs.
My brother kept his composure, his face unreadable. I didn't care too; I had no interest in their stares or even in making friends. Andrew and I made our way to the front, and we took the seats near the wall. I sat by the edge, with an empty spot left beside my brother.
As we waited for our instructor to arrive, a girl walked in. Her sharp and smart features stood out immediately and without hesitation, she took the seat next to Andrew, her expression say that she didn't know, or care, who we were. My brother, oddly enough, was uncharacteristically calm, not even looking in her way.
The whispers in the room are going louder, filling the space with curiosity. Suddenly, a man entered, his tall, commanding frame filling the doorway with ease. His sharp suit outlined broad shoulders and a strong, lean build that spoke of both strength and precision. A scar ran down his cheek, a silent testament to battles fought and survived.
His dark hair, slicked back, contrasted with his piercing brown eyes that seemed to weigh everything in the room. He moved with the confidence of someone who had seen much of life, his presence both dangerous and magnetic.
He raised his hand, and all the room fell silent. His voice was clear and steady as he introduced himself. "I will be your instructor for the next two years,"
he began with his voice that is steady and commanding.
"My name is Yuri, and during this time, you will receive the training and knowledge required to earn the title of members of the special force. These teams will be formed based on your skills and capabilities. And I assume you all have what it takes for that because if you didn't, you wouldn't be here at the first place."
I couldn't help but think about what my brother and I had endured all this time to get here. Whatever challenges my colleagues had faced, I doubt that we could compare them with us. My thoughts were interrupted as Yuri continued speaking.
"Your daily program will be divided as follows," he explained, his tone crisp. "In the morning, you'll begin with two hours of classroom sessions, covering history and general medicine. After that, you'll spend four hours on intense physical training like running, strength exercises, combat practice, and more.
He paused for a second then added
"Following this, you'll have an hour for lunch to rest and recover. Then, there is the mandatory two-hour sessions, you can choose between training or learning. I will personally oversee the training sessions, while the academic classes will be supervised by a Lady named Ishinese."
He paused again and looked around in everyone eyes then said
"Once these sessions are complete, you'll have free time to spend as you see fit, training, studying, or simply relaxing within the camp. However, by 8:00 o'clock you are required to return to your quarters. you're allowed to leave the camp once a week during your free time."
Then he added, "Once the teams are formed, the entire program will be changed. You'll be given more time to study and train specifically for your team's strategy. Each team will train separately, even challenge each other, and study together to plan their tactics and even have their own instructor."
He finally took breath and finish the explication.
"I believe now that everything is clear. So, let's get started."
I couldn't deny, this program had impressed me a lot. The structure was intense, but we could certainly take this freedom to our advantage. There was also the matter of identifying individuals with real potential.
As the day began, I notice the girl's exceptional diligence during the first two hours of class. She was focused, attentive, and seemed to absorb everything quickly.
Afterward, we moved on to the physical exercises. The first task was an 8 km run, followed by a series of strength drills and combat training. What struck me was how well this girl performed; she was exceptional in everything. Her movements were precise, her endurance impressive, and she even demonstrated a strikingly strong fighting style.
I observed my brother watching her more than once, this's rare. Normally, he kept his attention elsewhere, but there was something about her that stood out.
When the break came, she was sitting alone, taking a moment to catch her breath. My brother took the opportunity to speak up.
"Roy, are you watching everyone? I'm curious about that girl... What do you think of her?"
I thought for a moment before responding.
"We have plenty of time. Let's not rush to conclusions."
"Ok fine... as you wish " he replied, though I could see the curiosity still lingering in his eyes.
We finished our lunch and moved on to the optional hours. I noticed that the girl chose to spend the two hours studying, despite her obvious skills and strength.
After completing the training, we returned to our room as night fell. That's when Andrew started talking. "So, what do you think of our first day, Roy? Can you believe we're going to be living here for so long? This place will be our home."
"It's not that bad," I replied.
We were sleeping on two bunk beds stacked on top of each other, and Andrew lowered his head, smiling happily.
"Did anyone catch your interest today? What do you think of that girl? I really want to get her on our team. She seems strong to me."
"If you want her, go ahead. If she's what she seems, then that's fine." I replied looking at the book.
"Wow, it's good to hear you say that. Let me handle it. By the way, what are you reading? A romance novel?" Andrew teased.
Annoying… but when it came to communicating with others, I trust Andrew. After all, he was the one who had to live with someone like me.
"Oh, I almost forgot, what about the leader? What do you think, brother? You've got the skills to be the leader. So?"
I don't care about being the leader. Andrew can handle that. I don't like these kinds of responsibilities.
"You can be the leader if you want. You know me, I don't like those stuffs." I respond.
"As you wish. But even if I'm the one who takes the lead, you're the one who makes the decisions in the end. Anyway, let's just take some rest for now."
And with this we both slept and take some rest after turning the fire off.
