The King's fingers stilled against the table. His gaze flickered toward Ethan, silently demanding an explanation.
Ethan didn't hesitate. He adjusted his cuff and took a slow step forward.
"Our proposal is simple, Your Majesty. Spain maintains its sovereignty, its traditions, and its global standing. In return, you align yourself with Christopher Blackwood—not just politically, but economically and strategically."
The King raised an eyebrow. "And what does this 'alignment' entail?"
Ethan gave a slight nod, expecting the question. "First, economic restructuring. Spain's industries need modernization, and we have the resources to ensure that happens—without foreign interference." His voice remained smooth, deliberate. "Blackwood Industries will invest in key sectors: energy, defense, infrastructure. We will bolster your economy, reinforce your military capabilities, and position Spain as a leader in European affairs."
The King listened in silence, his face unreadable. Isabella, however, was visibly intrigued.
Ethan continued. "Second, political stability. There are factions within your government that do not serve your best interests. We both know this. With our influence, we can eliminate internal threats before they become problems."
The King let out a slow breath. "You speak as if you already control my kingdom."
Chris finally spoke, his voice calm but firm. "No, Your Majesty. But I do control the forces that will shape its future."
Silence.
The King's eyes narrowed. "And if I refuse?"
Ethan's smirk was brief. "Then Spain will be left behind." He spread his hands slightly. "You may keep your crown, but the real power will slip from your grasp. Your enemies will grow stronger while your influence fades."
Chris leaned forward slightly, his voice quieter but no less commanding. "This isn't just about Spain. It's about the world that's coming. And in that world, those who stand with me will shape it."
The King exhaled, his gaze shifting toward his daughter. Isabella's lips were pressed together, deep in thought.
At last, the King spoke. "And what do you expect from me in return?"
Chris's expression was unreadable.
"Loyalty."
