Chapter 180: The President’s Warning

(Chris's POV)

The situation in Nigeria had changed.

I stood in the Oval Office, my hands resting on the Resolute Desk as I listened to Skylar's report. She was strong—she brushed off the attack like it was nothing—but that didn't change the reality.

Someone had put their hands on her.

Ethan stood across from me, arms folded. "How do you want to handle this?"

I didn't answer immediately. Instead, I picked up the phone and dialed a secure line. The call was answered on the third ring.

"Mr. President."

"Put me through to President Okonkwo."

A pause. Then the line was transferred. Moments later, the Nigerian President's voice came through.

"President Blackwood, this is a surprise."

I didn't bother with pleasantries. "One of my officials was attacked in your country. That's unacceptable."

Okonkwo sighed. "I was informed of the incident. It was not a direct threat, just a civilian—"

"It was an attack," I cut in coldly. "And it happened under your watch."

A pause. Then, "Mr. President, we are handling the matter. The individual has been detained. There's no need for concern."

I leaned forward, my voice dropping. "You misunderstand me, Okonkwo. I'm not concerned. I'm warning you."

Silence.

I continued. "Skylar Hayes represents my administration. If anything happens to her—if anyone touches her again—I won't just send a security detail. I'll send a message your entire government won't forget."

Okonkwo exhaled. "I assure you, there is no hostility from my administration toward Minister Hayes."

"Make sure it stays that way," I said flatly. "Because if you can't guarantee her safety, I will."

A long silence. Then, "Understood."

I hung up.

Ethan watched me carefully. "So, that was the warning?"

I glanced at him. "That was the first one."

Because if Nigeria didn't get the message?

The second warning wouldn't be words.
