Classic Blackwood stood in his father's office once again. But this time, he wasn't asking for permission.
He was staking his claim.
Chris Blackwood leaned back in his chair, swirling a glass of whiskey, watching his son with that ever-present, unreadable gaze.
"I want to start my own company," Classic said, his voice steady.
Chris raised an eyebrow, taking a slow sip before responding. "You already own companies, Classic. Blackwood subsidiaries are at your disposal."
"No," Classic said firmly. "Not under the family empire. Mine. Separate from Blackwood Industries."
A tense silence settled between them.
Ethan, standing off to the side, let out a quiet chuckle. "Ambitious. What kind of business?"
Classic didn't flinch. "Private security. Intelligence. Something different from the corporate power plays Blackwood runs."
Chris exhaled, setting his glass down. "And why would I allow that?"
Classic met his gaze without hesitation.
"Because I know how you operate, and you'd rather have me carving out my own empire under your watch than trying to fight for a piece of yours."
Chris smirked slightly. Smart.
"And where do you plan to start?" his father asked.
Classic didn't miss the test in his tone.
"I already have the foundation."
Chris's expression didn't change, but Ethan raised an eyebrow, intrigued.
"The $38 million."
Chris chuckled, shaking his head. "So that wasn't just about the girl."
"It was," Classic admitted. "But now it's about something bigger."
Chris leaned forward, clasping his hands together.
"You want to break away from my shadow."
Classic held his ground. "I want to build something that belongs to me."
His father studied him, the silence stretching long enough to feel suffocating.
Then—he smiled.
"Alright."
Classic didn't react, but inside, he knew this wasn't victory.
Chris never gave something for free.
"Go ahead," his father said, reaching for his drink again. "But understand this, Classic—whatever you build, you'll have to protect. Without my name. Without my resources. And when the wolves come, it'll be you they devour first."
Classic didn't blink.
"Then I'll make sure they fear me more than they fear you."
Chris's smirk widened, a flicker of amusement in his eyes.
"We'll see."
