(Christiana Blackwood's POV)
The cheers, the flashing lights, the congratulations—it was all noise to me.
I stood at the edge of the ballroom, watching as my brother stood beside Princess Amal, their engagement sealed in the eyes of the world. Classic wore the expression of a man in control, composed, unreadable. But I knew him better than anyone.
This wasn't what he wanted.
He had accepted the engagement, but that didn't mean he had surrendered.
And neither had I.
I took a slow sip of my champagne, my gaze scanning the crowd. Powerful men and women filled the ballroom—royalty, politicians, military leaders, corporate giants. All here to witness the union of two empires. But to me, this wasn't a celebration.
This was a battlefield.
I spotted Ethan near the far end of the room, ever watchful. When our eyes met, I gave him a slight nod. He would understand.
The real game had just begun.
I turned my attention back to Classic and Amal. They exchanged pleasantries with foreign dignitaries, keeping up appearances. Amal played her role well—graceful, poised, obedient.
But obedience meant nothing in a war for power.
I approached, my heels clicking against the marble floor. As I reached them, Amal's gaze flickered to me, hesitant, almost nervous.
"Congratulations, brother," I said smoothly, offering him a flawless smile. "You've made quite the choice."
Classic studied me for a moment, reading between my words. I knew he could sense it.
I wasn't accepting this.
Not yet.
"And you, Princess Amal," I continued, turning to her. "I hope you're prepared for the world you're stepping into."
She blinked, recovering quickly. "I was born into it," she replied evenly.
"Were you?" I mused, tilting my head slightly. "We'll see."
A subtle challenge. A warning.
She wasn't the only one with a claim to power.
And I had no intention of watching my brother be controlled by anyone—not by King Salman, not by her, and not by anyone who thought they could decide his fate for him.
This engagement was only the beginning.
And I had already started planning for the end.
