Chapter 414: A Battle of Power

Skylar Blackwood

Power was not given. It was taken, secured, and protected.

The Prime Minister was wounded, his name dragged through the mud, his reputation shattered. But as long as I sat on the throne, he would not fall.

I made that clear.

In the grand hall, where the entire council gathered in tense silence, I took my place at the head of the room. My presence alone commanded attention, but today, I wanted obedience.

Ethan stood among them, his expression unreadable, his eyes sharp. He had orchestrated this crisis from the shadows, expecting me to let it play out.

He had underestimated me.

I lifted my hand, and the room fell into complete silence. Then I spoke.

"As Queen and ruler of this empire, I hereby declare that the Prime Minister's position remains secure."

A ripple of murmurs spread, but no one dared challenge me outright.

I continued, my voice unwavering. "There will be no further investigation. No resignation. The matter is closed."

Then, with deliberate finality, I stamped the royal seal on the declaration.

The decision was absolute.

I saw the flicker in Ethan's gaze—surprise, calculation, something unreadable. He didn't expect me to move this quickly.

He should have.

Because while he played his games in the shadows, I ruled in the light.

Ethan Carter

She was bold. I'd give her that.

Skylar had just locked the Prime Minister's position in place, defying the storm I created.

It was a masterful move. But it wasn't checkmate.

I watched as she sealed the decree, her posture regal, her authority undeniable. The council would fall in line—for now.

But she knew as well as I did that this wasn't over.

When the session ended, I waited. I knew she'd come to me.

And she did.

In the privacy of the royal chambers, she turned to me, arms crossed. "You thought you could remove him without consequence."

I met her gaze without flinching. "I thought you wanted him gone."

She narrowed her eyes. "Not like this."

Ah. There it was. The fine line between control and chaos.

"You stabilized him," I said, voice even. "But for how long?"

"As long as I decide," she replied without hesitation.

I gave her a slow nod, acknowledging the battle she had just won.

But a war was still coming.

And I wasn't finished playing my part.
