The Passing of the Torch

Ethan POV –

The world stood still.

Every screen, every broadcast station, every news outlet had been hijacked for a single announcement. The Blackwood Empire, the most powerful force in history, was about to reveal its next ruler. The speculation had been endless—would it be Classic, the strategic and composed heir? Or Christiana, the ruthless enforcer who had shaped the empire with an iron will?

But no one had expected this.

I stood beside Chris in the royal chamber, my mind racing as the weight of his words settled in.

"The time has come," Chris declared, his voice carrying across the grand hall, "for the Blackwood Empire to transition into its next era."

Christiana and Classic stood at attention, their expressions unreadable. They had played their roles, fought their battles, and emerged as pillars of the empire. But the throne—Chris' throne—was not theirs to take.

Chris took a step forward, his presence commanding absolute silence. "The ruler of the Blackwood Empire shall be… Ethan Carter."

The world itself seemed to halt.

The air left the room in a collective gasp. Shockwaves rippled through the gathered officials, the rulers of allied nations, the elites of the empire. Even Classic and Christiana betrayed momentary surprise before regaining composure.

Me.

My breath was steady, but my mind raced. I had always been Chris's right hand, the man who executed his will in the shadows, the enforcer behind the enforcer. But to be the ruler of the empire itself?

Chris turned to face me, his eyes unwavering. "You have been my most trusted, my most capable. And now, you will take the mantle. The Blackwood Empire will answer to you."

I bowed my head slightly. "It will be as you command, Your Majesty."

Chris's lips curled slightly—not a smile, but something close. "Not 'Your Majesty' anymore. That title belongs to you now."

The room was stunned into silence as he stepped back, signaling the end of his reign.

"My children shall always have positions in this empire," Chris continued, addressing the world, "but it is Ethan who shall sit on the throne."

The broadcast ended, but the impact of those words had only begun. The world was in shock.

The King had passed the torch. And now, the Blackwood Empire was mine to command.
