For once, there were no fights.
No blood.
No shadows lurking in the background.
Just a day of pure enjoyment.
Tomorrow was Haruto's 18th birthday, but today—Hemari, Satsuki, and Takashi wanted to make sure he had a day where he could just be… himself.
Haruto, of course, found the whole thing ridiculous.
But when he saw the excitement in their eyes, he decided to play along.
---
The Meeting Place
After school, Haruto arrived at the meeting spot Hemari had chosen—a quiet, high-end café in the city.
The moment he stepped inside, the air smelled of fresh coffee, chocolate, and vanilla.
A familiar voice called out.
"You're late, boss."
Takashi was already sitting at a table, sipping a cold drink, smirking like usual.
Satsuki leaned back in her chair, twirling a spoon between her fingers. "I was starting to think you wouldn't come, Haruto-san."
And then there was Hemari.
She stood up the moment he entered, walking towards him with a smile.
"You actually came."
Haruto smirked. "I didn't have much of a choice, did I?"
Hemari grabbed his wrist and pulled him towards the table. "Sit. You're going to enjoy today whether you like it or not."
---
A Normal Day... Almost
For the first time in a while, they acted like normal students.
They talked about stupid things.
Takashi kept teasing Satsuki. "I bet you planned this whole thing just to sit next to Haruto."
Satsuki rolled her eyes but didn't deny it.
Hemari and Haruto had their own small silent war.
She kept trying to make him drink something sweet.
"Try this, Haruto. It's really good." She pushed a caramel frappuccino toward him.
Haruto stared at it with mild disgust. "I don't do sweet things."
"Just take a sip."
He sighed, took a small sip—only for his expression to immediately darken.
"This is horrible."
Hemari just laughed.
---
Shopping Spree
After leaving the café, Satsuki dragged them to a mall.
"Come on! If we're celebrating, we should buy something fun."
Haruto had zero interest in shopping, but the girls had other plans.
Satsuki and Hemari forced him into trying different outfits.
They made him wear a white turtleneck sweater, then a dark blue blazer, and even a casual streetwear look.
Satsuki's eyes sparkled. "He looks good in anything…"
Takashi laughed. "I don't know what's more dangerous—Haruto's strength or his looks."
Hemari just stared.
Haruto had always been handsome, but seeing him trying on different styles made her stomach feel weird.
"You're staring too much." Haruto said flatly.
Hemari looked away, flustered. "Shut up."
---
Ferris Wheel Confessions
As the sun set, they ended up at a small amusement park.
Takashi went off to play games, while Satsuki and Hemari somehow convinced Haruto to ride the Ferris wheel.
As they reached the top, the city lights below them, Hemari suddenly whispered—
"Haruto… are you happy?"
He glanced at her, surprised.
"…Why ask that?"
"Because…" she hesitated. "I don't want you to disappear one day."
For a second, Haruto didn't answer.
Then he smirked. "I'm not going anywhere. At least, not yet."
Hemari reached out and held his hand.
"…Good."

The Night Ends with a Promise
As they walked home, Satsuki suddenly stopped and turned to Haruto.
"Tomorrow, we'll make your birthday unforgettable."
Takashi nodded. "It'll be the last birthday you have as a normal student."
Haruto simply chuckled. "I doubt it will be normal."
Hemari grabbed his arm. "Still… I hope you'll like it."
As they walked together under the night sky, none of them knew—
Tomorrow everything would change.
