Chapter 28 – The Meeting That Changed Everything
The next morning, Zane arrived at Vincent's office, greeted by the usual cold efficiency of Graves Enterprises. The air inside was sharp with the scent of coffee and control—both things Vincent seemed to run on.
Zane didn't bother waiting for permission. He strolled past Vincent's assistant, pushing open the door without knocking.
Vincent was already at his desk, sleeves rolled up, fingers steepled together as he studied something on his laptop. He barely looked up. "You're late."
Zane smirked, dropping into the chair across from him. "You're obsessed with me. It's concerning."
Vincent exhaled, closing the laptop. "Tell me you have something useful."
Zane stretched, making himself comfortable. "You wound me, Graves. I always have something useful."
Vincent leaned back, waiting.
Zane grinned. "Lancaster's next move? He's setting up a private meeting with the investors in three days. He wants to convince them to pull out of our deal and back his instead."
Vincent's jaw tightened. "Where?"
"A private estate just outside the city. Invite-only. He's keeping it quiet, but I have my ways."
Vincent didn't ask how. He simply nodded. "If he succeeds in turning them against us, this deal falls apart."
"Exactly," Zane said. "Which is why we need to crash that meeting."
Vincent's brows lifted slightly. "Crash it?"
Zane smirked. "I prefer 'attend uninvited.'"
Vincent sighed, rubbing his temples. "Zane—"
"Come on, Graves," Zane interrupted. "We're not going to sit back and wait for him to win, are we?"
Vincent's eyes met his, sharp and calculating. "No."
Zane grinned. "Good. Because I already have a plan."
Vincent exhaled. "Of course you do."
Zane leaned forward, eyes gleaming. "We're going to beat him at his own game."
And just like that, the real war began.
