Chapter 17: Aftermath and Arrivals

AKP Ahmad Soebani—Head of Criminal Investigation Unit of the Cengkareng Police, went directly to the scene to interrogate Katon about the two homicides he committed. "We need both of your presences at the Police Station to complete the statements, Mr. Katon and Mr. Morgan."

Teguh Putra, hearing the police officer's words, immediately spoke up, "Mr. Ahmad, the actions taken by Katon and Morgan were purely self-defense and to save me, Sir."

"Absolutely, if Katon hadn't acted, who knows what would have happened to us, Sir." Stella, still present and faithfully accompanying Katon, dared to speak up.

"As the captain of this aircraft, I am willing to vouch for them. I will provide a formal letter from the airline. Thanks to Katon, the flight proceeded smoothly and there were no passenger casualties." David—the airplane pilot—also voiced his opinion.

"I am also willing to vouch for them. If necessary, I will provide a lawyer for Katon. My only request is to allow us all to return home today, Sir. We need to see our families after experiencing a near-death situation." Teguh Putra spoke with a polite and emphatic tone.

AKP Ahmad Soebani scratched his chin and pinched his earlobe, overwhelmed by the sudden barrage of people defending Katon. And this didn't include the economy class passengers who were also speaking up and going viral on social media. It was going to get complicated. "Even so, we still need Mr. Katon and Mr. Morgan to be present at the Police Station for questioning."

Immediately, voices of objection echoed. Katon and Morgan, however, had remained silent all this time. AKP Ahmad Soebani raised both hands, "Alright. I understand your objections. Not today. Not tonight. I will send a subsequent summons, and Mr. Katon and Mr. Morgan must be present when called," AKP Ahmad Soebani said, slightly annoyed.

"Alright, Sir."

"Anytime, Sir." Katon and Morgan answered simultaneously, their faces bright.

Katon and Morgan were the last passengers to disembark, after receiving medical treatment and giving their statements to the police. On the apron, Katon approached Stella and gently rubbed her back. Stella straightened up, startled.

"Are you alright, Sweety?" he asked, concerned. Katon's eyes gazed tenderly into Stella's. The woman couldn't help but blush.

"I'm okay. Katon, thank you for your help."

"Oh, Sweety. How could I let you be in danger?" Katon said sweetly. Morgan, behind him, pretended to look up, searching for stars. Stella smiled sweetly despite her distress.

"Mr. Tenan, we are very grateful for your and Mr. Maxwell's courageous actions. I will ensure our airline acknowledges this and provides appropriate recognition. We will also provide testimony to the police that will exonerate you and Morgan from the incident on board." Suddenly, David—the pilot—joined them and shook Katon's hand.

"David, it's our duty as fellow human beings to help each other, isn't it?" Katon said warmly, flashing his charming smile as he shook David's hand firmly.

"Yeah, just ordinary humans like that. If you want to get into Stella's skirts too," Morgan hissed under his breath. Only Katon could hear.

They bypassed the immigration process and only followed police investigation procedures. It took a considerable amount of time. Katon was grateful he hadn't contacted his family about his arrival in Indonesia today. Otherwise, Katon couldn't imagine his mother waiting for so long at the airport.

When they finally exited the investigation, it was already eleven o'clock at night. Morgan stretched and raised his arms overhead to shake off the stiffness and fatigue after the long flight and the bonus fight on the plane. They were now outside the airport, waiting for a taxi.

"Almost midnight, Ton. Should we go to your parents' house or a hotel first?" Morgan asked, yawning. He wasn't sleepy; he just needed some oxygen. When he didn't hear Katon's response, Morgan turned to his side and found it empty. Katon had vanished.

"Damn! Where did he go? I'm talking to myself like a crazy person!" Morgan grumbled, looking around for Katon. "Of course, motherfucker!" Morgan continued to grumble when he saw Katon 100 meters away, talking to Stella Martin.

"He's fast when it comes to women." Morgan still grumbled to himself, as Katon had just been beside him and now had dashed off to approach Stella. A moment later, Morgan's eyes widened when he saw one of Katon's hands on Stella's shoulder and the other waving at a taxi.

"Bastard! Don't leave me behind, hey!" Morgan's voice was hoarse from shock, and he quickly rushed toward Katon.

"Go back to your hotel, Sweety. I'll visit you tomorrow."

Morgan stopped in his tracks, hearing Katon's words. He quickly composed himself, no longer panicking about being left behind. Morgan straightened his posture and stood tall, having just been embarrassingly frantic.

"Thank you for the dinner invitation. I'll be waiting, okay?"

"Of course, Sweety. I'll be there on time. Be ready for me." Katon took Stella's hand and kissed her knuckles before guiding her into the taxi, even slipping a few red bills to the driver to ensure Stella's safe arrival at the hotel.

After the taxi left, Katon turned to Morgan, surprised to see Morgan's annoyed face. "What's wrong?"

"I thought you were going to leave me," Morgan grumbled, making Katon laugh.

"C'mon. You're 30, what's the problem if I leave?"

"I forgot your house address, moron!" Morgan retorted, annoyed, which Katon ignored as he now waved at another taxi.

Arini and Satria now lived in Andrew and Maya's industrial house, accompanying his elderly parents along with their youngest, Lily. Meanwhile, Rose lived alone in Satria's old house in the golf course area.

Katon took Morgan to his grandfather's industrial house and arrived there past one o'clock. Only the security team greeted Katon's arrival. He immediately took Morgan to the second floor, occupying two of the three rooms there.

"Hey, don't your parents know you're coming?" Morgan asked before entering his room. He scanned the quiet, almost dark surroundings.

"They just don't know exactly when I'd arrive. Good night, Morg. Have a good rest."

"Hey, wait. Rosie lives here too, right?" Morgan asked hopefully. Katon gave him a murderous glare. "Okay, okay, just asking, suddenly your eyes are full of war," Morgan grumbled, then entered his room and closed the door.

Despite going to bed past midnight, Katon still woke up at five. He quickly showered and prepared for exercise. For years, since his adulthood began, Katon had lived separately from his parents. But Katon still remembered Satria's morning routine. His father would be exercising, just like he had always taught him.

Katon left his room, bypassing Morgan's room. He hurried downstairs and headed to the backyard. And sure enough, Katon saw Satria warming up, stretching his back by sitting cross-legged and pulling his knees toward his chest. For a moment, Katon just watched Satria, who was already in his twilight years but still looked dashing, albeit thinner than Katon remembered.
