The door creaked open with a slow, reverberating sound that echoed through the woods. A rush of cold air washed over Seraphina and Xander as they stepped through the threshold, entering a vast, dimly lit chamber. The air inside was thick with a strange, almost tangible energy, and the walls were adorned with old, faded tapestries that seemed to whisper in the shadows.
The room was empty, save for a single pedestal at the center, upon which rested an ancient book, its pages glimmering with a faint, ethereal glow. The moment Seraphina's eyes fell upon it, she felt a strange pull, as if the book itself was calling to her-beckoning her to come closer, to uncover its secrets.
Xander stood beside her, his gaze fixed on the book. "What is this place?" he murmured, his voice low and uncertain.
Seraphina didn't answer right away. She was too focused on the book. She could feel its power-an ancient, almost primordial force that seemed to resonate with her very soul.
Without a word, she took a step forward, her hand outstretched toward the book. As her fingers brushed the cover, a surge of energy shot through her body, sending a shiver down her spine. Her vision blurred for a moment, and in that instant, the world around her seemed to shift. The chamber began to swirl and warp, the walls folding into themselves as if reality itself were bending.
Then, a voice deep, commanding, and unmistakably familiar spoke, reverberating through her mind like a thunderclap.
"Do you wish to know the truth, Luna Seraphina?"
The voice was like a whisper in the wind, but its impact was immeasurable, shaking her to the core. She flinched, her hand instinctively pulling away from the book as the voice continued.
"You have been reborn, not by chance, but by design. Your purpose is far greater than you could ever imagine. The truth lies within you, but it will cost you to see it. The question is: are you willing to pay the price?"
Seraphina's heart raced. The words echoed in her mind, each one heavy with meaning. She turned to look at Xander, who was now staring at her with an unreadable expression. His golden eyes seemed to burn with intensity, as if he, too, were hearing the same voice.
Xander took a step toward her, his tone firm. "What is it, Seraphina? What is this truth?"
Seraphina swallowed hard, her throat dry. She wasn't sure if she was ready to hear it, but the pull of the book - the call of the truth -was too strong. She knew she had no choice.
She nodded slowly and turned back to face the pedestal. "I have to know," she whispered. "We have to know."
As soon as the words left her lips, the air around them crackled with energy. The book's pages flipped open, and a glowing light burst from within, engulfing Seraphina and Xander in its brilliance. The world around them dissolved, replaced by images-fragments of memories, visions of the past, present, and future-all flashing before their eyes in rapid succession.
In one instant, she saw herself as Selene Aldrich, the powerful CEO in New York, making deals and conquering industries with ruthless precision. But then the image shifted, showing her death-betrayed by those she trusted most, left to die in the cold darkness of her own penthouse.
Her breath caught in her throat as the memories flooded her mind. She could see her life, her death, and then… her rebirth. The vision twisted, and she was suddenly standing before a dark, ancient tree, the roots of which seemed to stretch deep into the earth. The tree pulsed with a strange, otherworldly energy.
And then, she saw him.
Xander. But not the man she knew now-the ruthless, silent Alpha of the Blackwood Pack. No, this was a different version of him. His eyes were full of sorrow and regret, and his face was covered in blood, as though he had been through a battle-one far greater than any they had faced in Wonderland.
The voice returned, its tone almost mournful.
"You were chosen, Luna Seraphina. Chosen to be reborn into this world, into this life. Your bond with Alpha Xander is not mere coincidence. It is fate."
Seraphina staggered back, her mind reeling. "Fate? What do you mean? How… how is this possible?"
The voice didn't answer directly. Instead, the visions continued.
She saw herself as a child-her memories of her past life before everything was taken from her. She had been born into royalty, a powerful bloodline with ties to the supernatural. She had been a princess-a queen, even before everything had fallen apart.
Then, the image shifted again, and she saw a future-a future where she stood at the head of an empire. Not just a business empire, but an empire that spanned across worlds. Her power, her influence, reached beyond mere human borders, touching the very fabric of reality itself.
She was meant to rule, to bring balance to both the human and supernatural realms. But the cost-her mate, Xander-had been torn from her by betrayal. And in this new life, in this new world, she had to find a way to fix the broken bond that had haunted her since the moment she was reborn.
And Xander…
Xander was not just her mate. He was a king in his own right, a ruler in another realm, a realm connected to Wonderland. The truth of his past life, and the past lives they shared, was far more complex than Seraphina had ever imagined.
Suddenly, the visions stopped, and they were back in the chamber, standing in front of the glowing book. The light faded, and the room returned to its dim, shadowy state. But the air was thick with the weight of the truth.
Xander was silent for a long moment, his eyes searching Seraphina's face as if trying to read her very soul. Finally, he spoke, his voice low, almost a whisper.
"I remember… bits and pieces. Of us, of what we were. But this… this is too much. You…" He paused, his eyes burning with a mix of confusion and sorrow. "You were a queen. And I… I was your king?"
Seraphina nodded slowly, the weight of the revelation settling on her shoulders. "We've both been reborn, Xander. But this world this reality-isn't the one we belong in. We were meant to rule together, to restore balance. And Wonderland is just the beginning."
Xander's fists clenched at his sides, his jaw tightening. "But how do we fix it? How do we fix what was broken?"
Seraphina took a deep breath, her eyes meeting his. She didn't have all the answers, but she knew one thing for sure, they were in this together. And no matter what the cost, they would fight to restore what had been stolen from them.
"We find the key," she said, her voice filled with resolve. "The key to our bond, to our past. And we'll break the curse that keeps us apart."
Xander nodded, his gaze unwavering. "Then let's do it. Together."
As they stood there, the ancient book at the pedestal began to glow once more, and the air shifted, the hum of Wonderland rising again, as though it, too, was ready for the next chapter in their journey.
