"Does he look like a dog with a broken leg?"
Granger nodded, burying his entire head in Callie's embrace like a well-behaved sweetheart.
But the corners of his mouth were clearly turned up slightly.
"Let's not play with him. I'll take you out for a stroll."
Callie left with Granger, not even looking back once.
Just like that, they left me behind alone.
Two years of dating.
Three years of marriage.
In the end, it all amounted to nothing.
Love? Hah, what a joke.
My mother-in-law discovered my miserable state and rushed me to the hospital.
"I'm sorry, Soren. I didn't raise Callie well enough."
Her face was full of apology.
"It's not your fault. I've always been grateful for your support. Without you, Granger would have been even worse."
"If Callie loves Granger that much, then let them be."
There's no greater sorrow than the death of the heart.
At this moment, I felt incredibly calm.
My mother-in-law was surprised to see me neither yelling nor crying.
"You need to take good care of yourself from now on."
I took a deep breath, "Callie has already divorced me, and this time the agreement is permanent. From now on, I belong only to Felicity."
What?Mother-in-law was stunned, frozen for a long moment before reaching into her pocket and pulling out a bank card. "Soren, this is the money I've saved up. The PIN is Callie's birthday."
"Run away, quickly!"
"Stay far away from my daughter and Felicity. Never come back, and please don't suffer anymore."
Though I was grateful, I shook my head in refusal.
"Felicity is a New York City socialite with powerful connections. Where could I possibly escape to?"
"Some things we must face head-on."
"I've already sent a message asking her to come pick me up."
After hearing this, Mother-in-law let out another long sigh, apologizing several times.
In truth, I had other plans. Granger had hurt me deeply, and I couldn't let him slide...
The next morning.
As Felicity was picking me up from the hospital, Callie sent me a text.
[Honey, I was a bit impulsive last night. When I get back from taking Granger on a relaxing trip, I'll make it up to you properly!]
I casually opened Granger's social media and saw his latest update.
"Finally arrived in Scandinavia!"
"With you by my side, happiness is everywhere!"
The accompanying photo showed him and Callie outside a Scandinavian airport, their fingers tightly intertwined.I smiled and replied to Callie: [I won't interrupt your private time together. Bye bye.]
"What are you smiling about?"
"Why so happy when you've been sold out?"
Felicity glanced at me sideways, her pretty face looking somewhat puzzled.
"It's nothing," I said.
I shook my head and tossed my phone out the window, watching it shatter into pieces just like my marriage.
A full month later, Callie and Granger finally returned home.
They were laden with bags and packages, laughing and chatting, seemingly in great spirits.
Mother-in-law gave Callie a cold look and complained, "So you finally remembered to come back?"
"Mom, I brought you a gift," Callie said.
She handed Mother-in-law a gift box, then asked, "Where's Soren? He should be home by now, right? I bought him some clothes."
"Hmph, more leftovers that Granger didn't want?" Mother-in-law snorted loudly.
Actually, it wasn't until recently that I realized all the gifts Callie gave me were either freebies or things Granger had rejected.
"Mom!"
"What nonsense are you spouting? You can't say things like that in front of Soren, or he'll go crazy."Callie grumbled unhappily.
"Yeah, so Soren doesn't get the wrong idea."
Granger chimed in with fake sincerity, his eyes full of mockery and smugness.
"Don't worry, he won't be able to hear us talk anymore."
Mother-in-law let out a deep sigh.
"Mom, what do you mean by that?"
Callie finally sensed something was off, her delicate brows furrowing slightly.
