A Meeting in a Different World

"Hey! Hey! Are you alive?" A strange young boy's voice rang in her ear. Ye Xing stirred where she lay on the ground. She slowly sat up and looked around with her eyes.

The dilapidated high - rise buildings that used to stand on all sides were replaced by tall and lush trees as if from the depths of a primeval forest. Ye Xing was in a daze for a long time before she was sure that she had time - traveled.

She had traveled from the end - times to an unknown place.

Just a second ago, she was still treating her injured teammates in the battle, and the next second, she rolled down from a tall tree.

Since she was a healer with special abilities, the places on her body scratched by the branches were already healing rapidly. She looked down at her clothes and pinched her own face.

Good, it seemed that she had traveled with her physical body, not just her soul. She hadn't taken over someone else's body.

After confirming that her body was still her own, Ye Xing finally turned her gaze to the young boy beside her who was still chattering non - stop.

The boy looked only fifteen or sixteen years old. His clothes were a bit messy, and there were several holes in them, as if they had been torn by some wild beast. There were a few small bloodstains on his face, and blood was constantly oozing from his left leg.

The boy gritted his teeth in pain because of the injury. As he tore off a piece of cloth from the hem of his shirt to tie around his leg to stop the bleeding, he asked Ye Xing, "Come on, girl, you're so clumsy! If you're so scared that you want to hide in the tree, why did you come to take the entrance qualification test for Bu'air College?

"This test is about the number of star - beasts you hunt, not how long you can survive in the wild. And even if you hide in the tree, you have to stay steady. If I hadn't caught you just now, you'd probably be a goner after falling from such a height."

The boy almost gritted his teeth as he said these words. There was no other reason; the pain in his leg was just too much.

Beside him, a star - beast that was two - thirds larger than him lay there. Its abdomen was full of thick green blood, and it lay motionless on the ground, completely lifeless.

The boy tied a knot on the cloth band, and the bleeding from his leg was alleviated. He looked at Ye Xing and said, "Why aren't you saying a word? Are you scared stupid?"

Hearing this, Ye Xing looked up. Only then did the boy start to size her up.

Her clothes were in tatters, her hair was in a mess, and she was so thin that she was almost skin and bones. Especially her sallow and emaciated face made him reasonably suspect that the person in front of him was a beggar who had wandered into the wrong place.

But he knew that this area was one of the direct - affiliated areas of Bu'air College. It had been used for the entrance qualification test for years, and the management was so strict that there was no way someone could have wandered in by mistake.

So, it seemed that the skinny person in front of him, as thin as a monkey, was indeed a participant in this test.

The boy shook his head. "With your condition, how did your parents agree to let you take this test? Aren't they afraid you'll be eaten by these star - beasts? You're so stupid. If you know you're weak, you should find teammates. There are always one or two strong guys who are bored enough to take you along. Instead, you came here all alone and hid in the tree..."

The boy kept talking. It seemed like a scolding, but actually, there was a bit of kindness from a stranger in his words.

Then Ye Xing reached out her hand, with her palm facing the injured part of his leg.

"What are you doing? Want to team up with me?" Seeing her reaching out, the boy thought she wanted to shake hands as a sign of teamwork. However, when he felt a warm current on his leg, his expression froze.

Ye Xing mobilized the little remaining special ability in her body to treat the boy's leg injury. There was no other way. Just before she traveled here, there had been a zombie tide. As a healer with special abilities, protected in the center of the team and responsible for treating and monitoring the injuries and conditions of all teammates, she naturally had to devote herself fully to the battle.

To minimize the losses of her own side, she had used up all her special ability without reservation. So now, after traveling here, she had less than one - thousandth of her original special ability left.

But it was still enough to treat a small leg injury.

The bright red blood had stopped seeping out of the cloth band at some point. The boy sat there stiffly, staring blankly at Ye Xing, his face full of disbelief.

"Why don't you keep talking?" Ye Xing withdrew her hand. The boy stared at her. It wasn't until Ye Xing waved her hand in front of his face that he went crazy and started to tear at the cloth band on his leg.

The cloth band was torn off. Through the torn hole in his pants, he could clearly see that the hideous wound on his leg was now completely healed, without even a single scar. The boy stared blankly at his leg and was in a daze for a long time.

"A... a healer?! You're actually a healer?!" The boy finally came to his senses and exclaimed.

Ye Xing blinked. Although she didn't know what a "healer" was, judging from the context, it should be something like a doctor, right?

So she nodded.

Then she saw the boy widen his eyes and immediately burst into a tirade. "What idiots left you here all alone?!Where are their brains? Have their brains been eaten by star - beasts? How could they let a healer be left alone! And put you in such a tall tree! Don't they know how fragile your kind is?"

At this point, as if suddenly remembering something, the boy asked in confusion, "Hey, isn't this the entrance qualification test site for the freshmen of the Mech Infantry Department of Bu'air College? What's a healer like you doing here?" He stood there, stunned and speechless. Then, as if thinking of something, he said angrily, "Who brought you in here? It's simply malicious!!"

The boy covered his chest, looking extremely grief - stricken, and his face turned red from scolding. Healers, as the core figures who can play a huge role on the battlefield, are extremely vulnerable.

They're the kind of people who might break a bone just by walking down the stairs too fast. And precisely because of their vulnerability, every healer is listed on the federal first - level protection list right after birth and is protected by the federal core army.

This protection lasts until the healer reaches the age of 16, after which it changes from overt to covert. The core army returns to the barracks, and the healers are given a special golden identity card and a safety alarm system is bound to them.

This safety alarm system works like this: as long as a healer encounters danger and presses the alarm button, the alarm system will immediately form a high - level protective shield to safeguard the vulnerable healer inside. At the same time, the five nearest patrol teams will quickly arrive at the scene.

So, here comes the question. This healer in front of him, who is so thin and looks so weak, has been in this dangerous and terrifying environment for so long. Why hasn't a single member of the patrol team shown up yet?!

Don't they know how great the loss to the future federation would be if she hadn't met him today?! Moreover, the federal top - brass promised all citizens that they would take good care of every healer. So why has the one in front of him been treated so badly?! Look at this disheveled state and how thin you are, like a monkey. What are your parents doing? And what about the federal army patrol teams?

What are the federal top - brass doing?! The boy felt that his pent - up anger had nowhere to go and was about to explode. His expression became a bit ferocious. Ye Xing shrank her neck when she saw this. This guy seemed a bit difficult to get along with. As if noticing Ye Xing's movement, the boy quickly composed his expression. Even though his eyes were still full of deep grief, he spoke to her in a soft voice. "

Hasn't anyone ever told you that healers can't come to such dangerous places? Where's your alarm button? Press it quickly and let the patrol team come and take you out. You're so delicate. It's really too dangerous for you here." Ye Xing still hadn't quite figured out the current situation, let alone understood what the alarm button and the patrol team the boy was talking about were. But she knew one thing: "I'm not delicate."

"Okay, okay, you're not delicate. But you still have to press the alarm button. Otherwise, it's really dangerous."

The tone sounded so perfunctory. So Ye Xing became serious and emphasized again, "I'm really not delicate." The boy still cooperated. "Yeah, I know. So have you pressed the alarm button?"

"What's an alarm button?"

"You don't know what an alarm button is? Didn't they bind one to you?"

The boy frowned, his voice full of anxiety. Ye Xing shook her head. The boy couldn't help scolding again. "What's going on? Nowadays, even the people at the federal top - brass are so unreliable.

Have they forgotten how rare it is for a healer to grow up safely?" Listening to the strange words constantly coming out of the boy's mouth and seeing the dead star - beast lying beside them, Ye Xing was sure that the person in front of her meant no harm and seemed to care about her.

She asked, "Did you kill this?"The boy looked at the star - beast's body and immediately stood up to block it with his body.

He said sheepishly, "Are you scared? It's already dead. Don't be afraid." Ye Xing really got serious. "I'm not scared. And, I'm really not delicate."

The boy nodded seriously. Someone who was so thin and yet wasn't hurt after falling from such a tall tree was indeed quite strong among healers. Seeing this, Ye Xing nodded in satisfaction and said, "You're really good."

The boy was slightly stunned. Was the girl in front of him praising him? He was actually praised by a healer!! The boy felt so happy that he thought he was about to float up to the sky. He scratched his head. "Well, it's just so - so. Anyway, I'm a prospective mech infantryman.

How could I not beat a little star - beast?" Prospective mech infantryman? Star - beast? Ye Xing frowned. She felt that she was getting more and more confused. "Ah, I forgot to introduce myself.

I'm Guan Jin, a 3S - level prospective mech infantryman. I hope I'll have the chance to protect you in the future."

Guan Jin gave a silly smile. "My name is Ye Xing, and I'm... a healer." Ye Xing reached out her hand to him. "Me? Is it for me?" Ye Xing nodded. Guan Jin nervously wiped his hand on his clothes several times before carefully reaching out.

When their hands met, the boy couldn't help sighing, "My life is complete now."
