Lunch With My Future Consort

Chapter 9

Jaxon

The lady that had peaked my interest was never seen. Unfortunately, according to the guards who were assigned to look for her, she had left the ceremony before closing time.

I gazed out the window, my mind wandering back to the mysterious woman whose voice had captivated me. I couldn't shake off the feeling of disappointment that lingered inside of me. The guards had failed to find her, despite my explicit instructions.

"Don't tell me that you are still thinking of that strange woman." Aelarion groaned, shaking his head at me in disappointment.

"Aelarion, I don't understand why they couldn't find her." He was busy, working over some documents. We were in the study, when we worked on affairs of the state.

"I described her to them, told them to search every corner of the city. But they came back empty-handed."

After they couldn't find the mystery lady that night, I stayed two more days in Town 6 and had the guards discreetly search for her.

Aelarion looked up, a sympathetic expression on his face.

"Jax, don't you think you are taking this too far? You are to be married to a beautiful Omega in six months time and you are here lusting over a strange woman? I thought you had more discipline but I guess war camp did nothing for you."

"Since when did you develop a conscience?" I shocked both of us as I realized the words that had come out of my mouth. Aelarion was a terrible flirt and loved ladies too much for his own good.

"Ouch touche. So that's what we are doing now?" He swiped his hand down his face.

"Perhaps we should focus on the task at hand. I have a meeting with the Council of Alphas soon, and—"

Aelarion waved his hand dismissively. "The Council can wait. What's this thing about this?"

"I don't know, this woman...there's something about her. I need to find her." I was confused about her

Just then, a knock at the door interrupted our conversation.

"Enter," I called out.

It was one of my Beta attendants in the palace. There were so many that I either mixed up their names or didn't even know it.

"Superior Alpha Jaxon and Alpha Aelarion." He greeted us by bowing at the waist.

I acknowledged his greeting by nodding my head. I was tired of correcting them. I had told them there was no need to address me by my royal title except during official functions.

"Is there any reason you are here?"

"Yes Superior Alpha Jaxon. Her Lady Amenadiel Oxford, your betrothed is here." He replied, gaze facing the ground.

I forced the urge to sigh. Of course I had forgotten that I was meeting with my fiancée today. The agenda of this meeting was to spend time together to know ourselves better before we tied the knot as husband and wife.

"Alright. Tell her that I will be joining her soon."

"Yes, Superior Alpha Jaxon." The Beta left.

Aelarion had a smirk on his face, probably thinking that might be revenge for him.

"You had better not laugh." I could only take so much.

"Don't be mean to her. You know she doesn't have a choice like you."

"Did you just say that? It's literally the dream of every Omega out there to be my bride. And I will treat her with mutual respect like any other person."

"Have a good time. And don't do anything that I wouldn't do." He chuckled.

I scoffed leaving the office, my room the destination in mind . I had to change my clothes before meeting with Lady Amenadiel.

In my room, I decided to take a quick shower.

After I was done, I picked a casual black dress shirt and paired it equally with black slacks.

Checking my appearance in the mirror, I looked decent enough. So I set off to seek out Lady Amenadiel.

"Superior Alpha Jaxon." Lady Amenadiel's soft voice welcomed me as I stepped into the visitor's room.

"Lady Amenadiel." I nodded.

I sat down and raised my eyebrows when I saw she was still standing.

"Please take a seat." In my mind, I hoped she wasn't one of those people that catered mindlessly to authority. At least even though we weren't fated mates and I didn't choose her to be my bride, I wanted to have a good marriage. Something like a partnership where we could understand ourselves perfectly well.

The attendants came in with different delicacies and drinks.

"Welcome to the Palace, Lady Amenadiel." I spoke after a moment of awkward silence.

"Thank you Superior Alpha Jaxon." She didn't meet my gaze directly.

"Let's eat." I pointed to the trays of food that were on the table between us.

"Thank you." She muttered. It seems like she was a very shy person.

We ate in silence and didn't say anything to anyone. I was tired of the silence and was wondering if this meeting was necessary.

"You don't like the delicacies?" I asked, trying to strike a conversation with her.

"I do, Superior Alpha Jaxon." She shook her head.

"Then are you just a shy person?" I popped a berry into my mouth.

"Superior Alpha Jaxon." She sputtered, blushing to the roots of her hair.

"So you are shy?"

"It's the first time that we are being this close without being supervised by any chaperone. So it's a little strange for me."

"Fair enough." I nodded, taking a sip from the wine glass.

"So do you have any questions to ask me?" She inquired.

"Questions?"

"Yes, Superior Alpha. My parents told me potential couples ask themselves to know if they are compatible."

"Don't you think that it's too late for that?" My brows were arched with amusement.

"I'm sorry." Lady Amenadiel stuttered and reddened in embarrassment. Her skin was pale, almost luminous in nature.

"Don't be embarrassed. I didn't say that to ridicule you. Anyways you don't have to apologize for everything you say. Okay?"

"Yes, Superior Alpha Jaxon."

"And you can drop the formality, Lady Amenadiel. We are going to be married in six months, you can't go on calling me every day of our lives together, or are you?"

"No, I guess not, Supe, I mean Alpha Jaxon." She nodded. Now she was just toying with her food.

I stopped eating totally.

"Lady Amenadiel?"

"Yes, Superior, Alpha Jaxon."

"Are you scared of me?" I asked curious.

"No." She shook her head in denial

"That answer came out a little too long." I observed. So much for wanting a bride that had spirit.

"I'm sorry."

"Don't apologize. You did nothing wrong." I sighed annoyed at our situation.

She kept silent, picking at her food. I even lost my appetite because the conversation was not going well.

The same Beta that had announced her arrival came in.

"Superior Alpha Jaxon, Lady Amenadiel." He greeted us.

"Alpha Aelarion sent me to tell you that The Council of Alphas are ready for you."

Good, this was my escape route. Staying here with Lady Amenadiel was agonising and an experience I did not ever want to relive again.

"Lady Amenadiel, I will have to take my leave as a matter of urgency just came up."

Lady Amenadiel stood up and bowed her head.

"Please do see to her that she's comfortable." I told the Beta on my way out.
