Eadric's Pov

I wasn't paranoid but I knew something was wrong, our recent reconnaissance missions had all been compromised, and my investigation into his identity had led to dead ends. The thought of a traitor within the palace gnawed at me relentlessly.

I couldn't be trying to protect my kingdom and one person would be behind the scenes pulling the strings and stringing me along like a fool.

"Damn it all," I muttered, slamming my fist on the table. The papers scattered, and I hissed.

'Would you relax?' Joseph cautioned me.

I blocked him out before he added to my stress.

A soft knock interrupted my spiraling thoughts. "Enter," I called before trying to compose myself.

The door creaked open, and Derek, my trusted advisor, stepped in. "You called for me, your highness?"

"Yes. Close the door, please."
