"Huh?"
Eve's heart squeezed in her chest as her lungs tightened.
"Do you know how to keep a secret?" Malakai asked again, gaze pinning her still.
She nodded.
"I…do." What could he be hiding?
His hands came around the back of her head, thick fingers wrapping around her neck to keep her rooted where he wanted her.
"Look into my eyes, Eve," he said.
Eve couldn't look away even if she wanted to. Those golden iris aflame sucked her in, they kept her hypnotized, and she was amazed, watching them brighten, lit aflame like they could consume her.
"Oh…my gooddess…"
The sudden fuzzy dizziness that filled her brain made her body numb. "What…what are you—"
It did, it pulled her in and suddenly, she was in a place she'd never seen before, below an oak tree, the ground beneath her feet, tickling with the short grasses and a root of flowers growing every five feet distance.
Where was she? One second, she had been in Malakai's room and the next she was standing in a place that looked nothing like they existed.
"It's not real."
Startled by the abrupt voice, she turned to see him standing right behind her, his hands shoved into the pocket of his slacks. His golden hair was unbound from it's restraint.
"This is an illusion."
Eve took an unconscious step back. "I know what you are."
Malakai moved towards her.
"A supreme alpha. The moon goddess's favored creation."
He was in her face in barely the blink of an eye, his body hunched so he could stare deep into hers as if to search her soul. "Keep your eyes on me, Eve, you'll find out more."
He was definitely a supreme alpha, the purest of the alphas, but what was having her shocked beyond anything was his abilities, his power. Supreme alphas were strong, but this strong and dangerous?
Incridible!
"Of course you'd figured out that I wasn't your regular alpha. A mere standard alpha." He grabbed her hand and she lowered her gaze to the fingers wrapped around her skinny wrist. "I'd be more shocked if you didn't."
"Why are you hiding it?" she rasped.
"Do you know what would happen if anyone finds out I'm a supreme alpha, the only one existing in this pack, Eve?" he asked.
She swallowed. "The Alpha will feel threatened. He'll want you gone…because people will choose a supreme alpha over a standard alpha."
"Exactly. Supreme alpha's like me are deemed dangerous because we're rare. He can even convince the members of the pack to get rid of me." A grin pulled at his lips. "Would you like to see just how much more I can do? How far are my abilities?"
Eve subconsciously nodded at him. "Yes."
He didn't move. Instead he grabbed her chin, tilting her head up. "You're a clever woman, Eve, but don't ever make the mistake of blackmailing me with this."
Eve gazed at him and slowly smirked. "Blackmail you? You underestimate me, Malakai. If you don't, you wouldn't assume I'd ever blackmail you. Have you forgotten we're mates and that we're stuck in this marriage forever? Your downfall is my downfall. All I need from you is protection, nothing more. Infact your secret benefits me. The stronger you are, the more I can use my brain however I like."
Malakai cocked a brow at her and suddenly laughed. "I think you may have just made me fall in love with you, little bird."
She rapidly blinked at her and quickly lowered her head, hiding the flush that crawled up her face. "Funny joke. It's very funny."
He reached forward, tucking a few strands of her hair behind her ear. "Who said I'm joking?"
She flashed him a look. "What do you—"
"Possession," Malakai cut her off. "It's one of the things I can do."
He stepped so much closer to her and grabbed her shoulder. "I can possess you," the words fell from his lips.
"Posses me—"
"Brace yourself," And then he was nothing more than an ashen cloud of smoke vanishing out of sight, the man who'd been standing in front of her not more than a few seconds ago, now gone.
"Eve."
"What the heck?" she jolted, almost jumping out of her skin. "Oh, no, oh no, no,no, you're inside me!!"
His voice was as clear as glass in her head as if he was speaking to her soul.
"You're…you're really inside of me."
"Yes I am. I've possessed you and now you can do this."
"Huh—"
Eve's body moved without her consent, so fast as if she'd jumped through time and suddenly, in merely the blink of an eye, she was twenty feet away from her initial spot.
That was…
"H-how?"
"When you possess someone, your strength becomes theirs. It's that simple."
Of course. That was how possession worked!
Her lips curled into a smile.
"Malakai… w-what more can we do?"
"Levitate."
Her body suddenly felt light. She couldn't feel the grass beneath her feet anymore and when she looked around, she was in mid air, floating. No rope, no wings, she was held by nothing.
Eve's hands came around her mouth and she squeezed her eyes shut, before erupting into bubbles of laughter.
This was real and she didn't want it to stop.
But it did, because suddenly, she didn't feel Malakai anymore. He'd left her body and now, she was falling, screaming so loudly, she was near close to losing her voice,
Her hair whipped wildly in the wind, her glasses slipping off her face.
"MALAKAI!"
Something caught her before she could hit the ground and she took seconds steadying her rapid breathing before opening her eyes that she'd squeezed tightly shut. "Malakai?"
"Yes?"
Eve blinked up at him, heart pounding as his cold, steady gaze met hers. Oh, he caught her, he had her in his arms, she was alive!
"You remember I'm pregnant right?" she asked. "Don't do that again."
The illusion was gone, and right back in the bedroom, they were. Eve seated on the sofa, and Malakai squatted in between her spread legs, grip firm on her thighs.
He leaned in closer to her, lips stretching into a smile.
"We're a perfect pair, Eve…" His hand grabbed hers, bringing it to his lips where his fangs sank in, biting.
"With my strength, you'll be unstoppable."
