Chapter 017: Misunderstanding

After leaving Cyrus Greene, Katerina Raven drove to a car wash. Half an hour later, her Land Rover SUV not only had different license plates but also a different color and even model. It would be very difficult now for the police to connect her vehicle with the one that appeared near the murder scene.

"Damn that stinking kid, how dare he kill someone in broad daylight. How could David leave this kind of hoodlum for me to take care of?" Katerina returned home indignantly, still thinking about how to give her sweetheart a good scolding.

However, upon arriving home, Katerina found Angie eating chips and watching TV on her living room sofa. Seeing her return, the oversized loli happily pounced on her, exclaiming, "Hey! Sister Katerina, I've been waiting for you for so long."

Seeing Angie, Katerina's gloomy mood immediately brightened. She was extremely fond of her sweetheart's daughter, and the two got along just like sisters. Well... the generations were a bit confused, but Westerners didn't care much about that.

"Angie, I'm so glad to see you so full of energy. Stay here tonight, I'll make you a French dinner." Katerina lovingly ruffled Angie's hair, and the two women, one large and one small, immediately tumbled together on the sofa, playing and wrestling.

After laughing and playing for a while, Angie said, "By the way, when I arrived at your place, I found autonomous delivery vehicles driving into the basement, seemingly delivering a lot of miscellaneous items."

"Oh... those were bought by that brat. Just daily necessities, but quite a lot." Katerina frowned at the mention of Cyrus Greene.

Angie sensitively noticed this and asked puzzledly, "Where's Victor? Isn't he supposed to be here with you?"

"That boy's name is Victor? You'd better stay away from him. That bastard will hurt you." Katerina spoke contemptuously, her prejudice against Cyrus Greene quite deep. "It's strange that your father even knows someone like him."

"Hey... Victor is my friend. Katerina, what did you do to him?" Angie immediately realized the situation was unexpected. "Where exactly is he? I want to see him."

Katerina glanced at Angie, saying indifferently, "Is that guy so important? I think he's just a rookie. I told him to get up at six o'clock, but he slept until ten. I prepared canned food and bread for him, but he was picky and wouldn't eat it. Most ridiculously, he doesn't even know how to use a gun - he's not a qualified mercenary at all."

Hearing Katerina's dismissive tone, Angie was stunned, and after a moment realized there must be some misunderstanding. She hurriedly said, "Katerina, you've got it wrong. Victor is not a mercenary. He's my friend, he's very timid, and he never causes trouble."

"Oh...?" Katerina also realized she might have fallen into a cognitive bias, automatically assuming that someone brought by David Lawrence would be similar to herself. But she still said unpleasantly, "Fine, even if he's not a mercenary, his character isn't good, and he's not timid. Boys all like to lie; you'd be better off cutting ties with him."

"Wait, wait... what exactly happened?" Angie was completely bewildered. "I feel like the Victor you're describing is completely different from the Victor I know."

"I took him to Target to buy things. He said he was hungry and went to McDonald's to buy a hamburger. When I finished purchasing ammunition, he came back covered in blood, saying he had killed someone.

Can you imagine? In just those few minutes, just because he was robbed, just because of a problem that twenty dollars could have solved, he killed someone. I hate people who like to solve problems with violence; they're simply scum."

Katerina spoke righteously and passionately - anyone who didn't know her would surely think she was a kind pacifist. Hearing this, Angie smirked and said, "Sister Katerina, if you were robbed, you would also kill without hesitation.

But, strangely, Victor could kill someone. Anyway, this misunderstanding can be cleared up. Right now I just want to know where he is."

Seeing Angie staring at her intently, Katerina suddenly wondered if she had made a mistake. She asked, "Angie, what has that little brat done to make you like him so much? I think he's very ordinary!"

"Because Victor saved me. He saved quite a few people last night. I've always thought Victor was a timid person, but his courage last night exceeded my imagination." Angie recounted Cyrus Greene's heroic deeds from the previous night one by one, embellishing the story to make Cyrus Greene's image exceptionally grand.

"Do you know who his enemies were? Two Russian gang enforcers, taller and more muscular than my father, looked extremely terrifying. At that time, the two villains wanted to abuse and kill a poor woman; the situation was extremely dire.

If I had encountered such a situation, I would have screamed in terror, then turned and run, and might not even have been able to escape. But Victor bravely stood up; he saved a life, which required extraordinary courage.

The story that followed was even more thrilling. To help that prostitute, Victor volunteered to help her steal back her passport. Do you know where those prostitutes' passports were hidden? In the enforcers' room at the Cat's Claw Bar, a very dangerous place.

But Victor went there bravely. He didn't consider his safety at all; he just wanted to help that poor prostitute. I think even God would approve of his courage and fearlessness at that moment.

But then something went wrong. I happened to be secretly drinking at that bar with some classmates and ran into Victor. I misunderstood him, and I feel very ashamed about it. After arguing with Victor, I was drugged by the thugs at the bar and was taken away in a daze.

After Victor got the passport, he could have escaped. But when he discovered I was missing, he stayed to look for me, risking death. If it weren't for his persistence, I think I would either be in the hospital now regretting my mistake, or lying in the morgue.

So I'm very grateful to Victor. I think it's admirable that an ordinarily timid boy could step up at a critical moment and face powerful villains for my safety. His behavior can be described as great and kind. So I must cherish our friendship. I can't abandon him, just as he didn't abandon me.

Katerina, do you understand what I mean? Can you tell me where Victor went? I need to find him."

Angie's words were extremely simple and plain, yet carried genuine emotion. Cyrus Greene had originally been just an ordinary friend, but last night's events had significantly increased her good impression of him, making him a close friend. She grabbed Katerina's hand, almost begging, "If Victor offended you, I apologize to him. But he is not a hoodlum; he is a very brave and righteous person."

Katerina hadn't expected that the person she had casually abandoned was so important to Angie. With a feeling of regret, she asked, "Do you have his phone number?"

"No, Victor is very poor; he doesn't even have a phone," Angie said.

Now Katerina could only jump to her feet, exclaiming, "In that case, we can only go find him ourselves."

Angie anxiously asked, "Where exactly is Victor?"

"Alright, I admit I might have misjudged him," Katerina said sternly. "I thought he was just a troublemaking hoodlum, so I left him on the most chaotic street in Brooklyn. I hope he's still alive."
