chapter 149 The Great Getaway (Almost)

Forrest's POV

"Okay," Forrest said as he and Opal darted through the dense trees, dodging thorns and roots. "On a scale of one to 'Kael is going to skin us alive and wear our faces,' how much trouble do you think we're in?"

Opal didn't answer.

Probably because she was too busy gripping the glowing black crystal through her jacket like it might combust at any moment.

"For the record," Forrest added, hopping over a log, "if anyone asks, this was entirely your idea, and I was just a loyal, handsome chauffeur."

"We're not that far from the car," Opal muttered, glancing over her shoulder. "We can still make it."

Forrest grinned. "Dibs on blasting music and peeling out like we're in a getaway movie."

They burst through the tree line, the edge of Alpha Marcus's territory behind them, and spotted Ash's SUV parked exactly where they left it. Untouched. Waiting.

"YES," Forrest hissed. "Our noble steed awaits."
