Chapter 26: Breaking the Chains

The world blurred into chaos.

Dante's golden energy clashed against the Revenant Commander's abyssal power, their blows sending shockwaves through the ruined battlefield. The air cracked with each collision, pressure waves distorting the space between them.

The Commander struck fast—too fast for a normal eye to follow. But Dante was faster now. Stronger. His body moved instinctively, sidestepping a razor-sharp tendril and countering with a golden fist.

CRACK!

The Revenant reeled back as Dante's punch connected, golden energy burning across his chest like wildfire. For the first time, the creature stumbled.

Dante smirked. "What's wrong? Not so untouchable now, huh?"

The Commander straightened, rolling his shoulders. "So, this is what the Primordials built into you…" His black eyes gleamed. "I suppose I should take this more seriously."

BOOM.

Shadows erupted from the Revenant's body, expanding outward like a living abyss. The air turned freezing, the ground beneath them fracturing as a dark aura spread across the battlefield.

Dante's smirk faded. This… this was different.

"Cain, Lyra, get back!" he barked.

Cain, still cradling his arm, whistled. "Yeah, no argument there."

Lyra had already taken several steps back, gun raised. "Dante, this isn't normal."

No kidding.

The Revenant's presence twisted the space around them, his form flickering between solid and shadow. When he spoke, his voice layered over itself, like multiple beings speaking at once.

"You are incomplete, Dante Kieran. A failed experiment trying to fight against something beyond him."

Dante clenched his fists. "Guess we'll see about that."

The Revenant blurred—one second standing still, the next right in front of him. Dante barely had time to raise his arms before—

BANG!

The impact sent him flying. His back slammed into a concrete pillar, the structure cracking under the force. Pain flared, but he ignored it, forcing himself up.

The Revenant didn't stop. He came again, faster, his attacks precise and relentless. Dante blocked one, dodged another, but the third—

SLASH!

Black tendrils raked across his side, tearing into flesh. Blood sprayed.

Dante gritted his teeth, golden energy flaring to cauterize the wound instantly.

He wasn't going to win this by just reacting.

He had to end this.

Now.

Unleashing the Storm

Dante exhaled, letting the energy inside him build. It clawed at his control, hungry, desperate to be let loose.

Cain shouted from the sidelines. "Uh, Goldie? You're glowing a little more than usual!"

Lyra's sharp voice cut through. "Dante, if you push too far, you might—"

Too late.

Dante stopped holding back.

The golden energy exploded outward, a blinding shockwave blasting through the battlefield. The air vibrated with power, golden veins lighting up his body like molten cracks in stone. His hair lifted, golden strands flickering like fire.

The Revenant hesitated.

Dante grinned. "Let's finish this."

And then he vanished.

A golden blur.

In a heartbeat, he was behind the Revenant, his fist already swinging. The moment his knuckles connected—

BOOM.

The Revenant was sent hurtling through the battlefield, smashing through walls like they were paper.

But Dante wasn't done.

He flashed forward, intercepting the Revenant mid-air, grabbing him by the throat.

"You talk too much."

He tightened his grip—

And slammed the Revenant into the ground with enough force to shatter the earth beneath them.

A crater formed, dust and debris exploding outward. The Revenant gasped, shadows flickering wildly.

Dante raised his hand, golden energy condensing into a burning spear.

"This ends now."

The Revenant's black eyes flickered with something new.

Fear.

Dante thrust his hand downward—

And the battlefield erupted in golden light.
