Kanna waits in a room within the Gonzalan Chief Administrative Office. The Chief Administrative Office (CAO) is located in the center of the city. It is held up by several sturdy columns and is light grey with scarlet red trimming throughout. There is a silver roof that covers the structure.
The walls of the room are rose red, the carpet is a light grey-brown hue, and the ceiling is dark red. Multiple pictures are hung up with copper frames. A thin man with dark grey hair, a thin mustache, yellow skin, gold eyes, and long thin eyebrows named Jorai waits across her. He is the city mayor.
Jorai: "Well done Kanna, with your help, I'm faithful that this city will be under good hands. It is the work of public servants like you that makes it possible for citizens to sleep at night peacefully."
Kanna nods, "Thank you sir. It means a lot to me to hear that from a distinguished professional like you. I may be impressive but believe me, I'm a hot mess inside."
Jorai laughs, "Aren't we all. You are young and talented. People like you are the future. You give the little ones hope of what they can be and not long someone like you will be leading this city. The sky is the limit young Foloki."
Kanna rests her right index finger on her chin, "Of course sir, if you need any sort of help, don't hesitate to reach out to me."
As she steps out of the mayor's chamber a middle-aged woman with faded medium-length wavy brown hair, beige skin, thick eyebrows, a curved nose, dark pink lipstick, maple brown eyes, and small ears approaches her. It is Kubala, her intel broker.
The woman wears gold trimmed glasses and has a brown-grey handbag. She strides in high heels and her entire outfit is in sync. Kubala has a shinning white pearl necklace.
Kubala: "Miss Foloki, I have another briefing for you. Stand close to me, we can talk and walk."
Kanna steps with Kubala, "What information might that be madam?"
Kubala: "It's a person that's causing us a lot of problems. A magician who goes by the name of Zalmu. Agents fear he is looking to create a group of mischievous villains; however, the modern court system doesn't determine magic to be a reasonable purpose of conviction."
Kubala continues, "That is where someone like you, a proxy, can move in subtlety to not be detected and give us a lead on what he is doing."
Kanna wonders if she should consider any ethical implications in this situation. Due to her inexperience in the field, she trusts the greater wisdom of the powers that be.
She agrees, "I'll look into it. By the way, I saw a weapon that Lubov carried, it was not like anything I've seen. It shot earth at me but did so quickly and was ignited by a spark."
Kubala answers, "We call them guns. They are incredibly dangerous and might get banned from conventional use, but they are not without their weaknesses. As you may have noticed, a skilled fighter must move before the trigger is pulled. Otherwise, the rapid bullet could catch you."
Kanna: "Bullet, that's what they call those projectiles?"
Kubala: "You answered your own question. I don't expect you to see much more of them, I haven't heard any other reports of guns."
Kanna: "So you knew he had one of those explosive tools and you never told me?"
Kubala: "I did not tell you because I was not certain, and I trusted you would be able to handle whatever instrument he may bring to the table. I was obviously right, wasn't I?"
Kanna looks back at her, "Well, I guess you were. I just don't like surprises."
Kubala: "Get used to it Kanna, you were in the 31st, you should be already. Even so, that is the life of a proxy."
Unusual Stroll
Kanna skips around during a bright day. There is a moderate crowd commuting through the city. Unlike some of her more famous friends, hardly anyone knows who she is. Kanna prefers it this way, she feels at bliss as she lives in anonymity.
Kanna stops by her favorite shoe store. She sees Jotan the tailor. Jotan has light yellow skin, black straight hair with a bald spot in the middle, and dark brown eyes. Jotan is tall and fat.
Jotan: "If it isn't one of my favorite customers, what type of shoes were you looking for?"
Kanna looks down at her current shoes, they are light brown, "I love these, but I want something a bit more modern." As they talk, a young woman briskly walks outside. The woman has short brown hair, green eyes, light skin, and a small nose. She nervously peers behind herself and spots two men trailing her.
As she scurries, she bumps into someone right in front of her. Unlike most people in Gonzala, she is an earthbender.
The girl is startled by the commotion, "Ron! What are you doing?!!" The young man is tall, lanky, has fair skin, hazel eyes, and has thick dark brown hair. Ron has a quiver strapped to his back.
He stands at 5'10. Ron: "Don't worry Yoki, I've got your back!" A man pulls a sword from his hilt while his 6'2 tall companion reveals a metallic bat. Ron sees two men step behind him. One has a spear and the other draws two sabers.
The fighters have beige robes with black markings. Yoki gulps, "Looks like they're really after us." Yoki has clearly never been in a street fight, she is horrified.
Ron whispers, "You trained for this, you've got this!" Ron doesn't have much experience either but he's had a couple of scuffles in the past. Yoki yells before she slams the ground and causes multiple columns to rise from the ground. The criminals see her attack coming and step to the side but they are at awe by her raw power.
Yoki snarls and turns her right arm left, "Ha!" Multiple fragments pound against the bat user. The swordsman chases after her but Yoki pushes two blocks at him. The duelist hacks both objects apart and lands a couple of inches left from her. Meanwhile Ron launches an arrow into the spearman's torso.
The man with dual swords knocks back two arrows from Ron. He runs at him with deadly intent but Yoki nods then switches positions with her companion. Yoki sidekicks a brick into his sternum. Ron launches an arrow at the swordman's gut but he dips and hacks it into the ground.
The duelist gets closer and horizontally lashes his brand at his face. Ron ducks and punches the man in his throat before leveling him with a left kick to the liver. An older swordman with a cross-guard and a mace trooper stand across Ron's location. Yoki is met by a spear fighter and a long-haired man with a short sword.
The spear warrior tosses his weapon at the earthbender but Yoki raises her right hand and a barrier blocks it. The spear warrior retrieves his weapon as Yoki punches a stone at the short swordsman who horizontally leaps over it, landing a few inches right of her position. Yoki swivels her arm and a earth shaft rises from the ground before hitting him.
Ron launches a bow directly in the mace soldier's belly. The man pulls it out of his body but Ron shoots another at his chest. The cross-guard warriors weapon is heavy, so he does not make an effort to aid his ally. The second arrow dispatches the mace fighter and the fighter swarms after Ron.
The archer fires one arrow after another but the cross-guard fighter chops both down with his blade. Ron shoots again at his head to distract him. The guard blocks as anticipated but Ron slides forward then pulls a knife and slashes the man's right leg. The soldier slumps over and Ron puts him sleep by kicking him in the head.
The spear warrior lunges at Yoki but she shuffles and latches onto his weapon. The mercenary tries to pull his weapon back but the earthbender is stronger. Yoki yanks the man in, sways his weapon in her grasp, and butts it into his forehead. Kanna claps and cheers, "Yay!! That was spectacular! You guys are so awesome."
Ron: "Who is she?"
Yoki shrugs, "I don't know."
Kanna: "Name's Kanna Foloki, I'm a government proxy, that means I get to investigate, hunt, and beat bad guys on solo missions. But you both seem to be good leads. I could use you to find out what's going on here. I'm trying to keep Gonzala's streets clean. So who were they, what did they want with you?"
Ron looks at Yoki, "Do you want to..."
Yoki finishes, "Yeah I'll explain, this is my boyfriend Ron by the way. We are being chased because my older brother Janko owes a big time crimelord named Gajo some shekels."
Kanna asks, "Do you have a ballpark how many shekels is?"
Yoki thinks, "Umm, maybe around eight thousand copper shekels."
Ron yells, "EIGHT THOUSAND!!"
Yoki: "Ron relax."
Ron: "You didn't tell me that."
Yoki: "You didn't ask, I just told you a lot."
Ron: "Can you pay?"
Kanna points, "Two things, no and no... For one, I don't pay criminals. And, for two, I don't have that much money to just pardon away."
Ron shrugs, "Then why did you ask?"
Kanna: "Because I can help you silly, duh."
Yoki: "Can you get to the point?"
Kanna strolls, "You know patience is a virtue. My instructor taught me that and my friend Aang reminded me."
Ron: "Woh, you knew Aang."
Kanna: "YES, but we weren't close friends, more like good acquaintances."
Ron: "Then why did you say you were friends?"
Kanna yawns, "Because we were friends we just didn't know each other as much as someone like Aang and the people in his team. You sure ask a lot of questions. I bet he keeps you busy girl."
Yoki chuckles, Ron: "That's not even funny."
Kanna comments, "Two people seem to disagree with you."
Yoki begs the question, "How will you help us?"
Kanna: "I want to meet your brother, then I'll decide."
Ron: "We have no idea where he is and he is on the run."
Kanna: "You mean to tell me his own sister doesn't even have a clue where her brother is?"
Yoki: "I know a place he might be." Two hours later, several people stand outside of a local tavern. One short older man gets kicked out for being too rowdy.
Older man: "Awww, you guys seriously blow! Kiss my buttock!!" The man stumbles over the curb, "ooof!"
Ron looks down, "Ugh, I hate these kinds of places."
Kanna: "Now what?"
Yoki: "Just follow my lead misses proxy." Yoki leads her allies to the inside of the establishment. Several people drink spiked tea, some eat sushi, a few play pool, and others throw darts.
Yoki waves for the store owner who is actively balding, has black wavy hair, is overweight, is tan, and seems to be around 5'8. Yoki: "Dozi, where is Janko here?" The man puts his head down and sighs.
Kanna grins, "Not bad." The trio meet with Dozi as they follow a hidden door and step down in the basement. Janko is laying in a bed.
Yoki shouts, "You sure got us in a lot of trouble! Gajo tried to kidnap us as ransom to get to YOU!! Because you owe him EIGHT THOUSAND copper shekels!!!"
Janko: "Aww, aww Yoki, I-I-I w-wasn't thinking about you. I was only thinking about myself."
Yoki: "That's obvious."
Kanna pouts, "You tell him girl!"
Janko: "Who is she?"
Kanna answers, "I'm a proxy."
Janko: "A wha, a what now?"
Ron shakes his head, "That doesn't matter. She is with us."
Kanna interrupts, "Well, I think it matters that I'm a government agent."
Ron squeals, "Ga-government!! Are you going to arrest me?!"
Kanna smiles, "Not if you comply. Consider this a situational get-out-of-jail-free-card. All I want you to do is tell Gajo you want to make a deal with him. You have the shekels and are ready to pay him."
Janko: "Even he won't believe that."
Kanna: "But I'm sure he'll still let you transport it."
Ron: "I have a bad feeling about this crap."
Yoki hyperventilates, "Good thoughts, good feelings... Create good vibes Ron, that isn't helping."
A Bold Deal
Ron, Janko, and Yoki arrive in the Southern city square to meet for a deal. Ron and Yoki hold a large chest. Gajo's team comes to pick it up. A glaive fighter steps with two spear mercs around him.
Behind them is a row of swordsmen and a firebender. Yoki's chest sinks as she realizes how official Gajo is when it comes to his criminal profession. The glaive trooper has a white helmet and long dark grey cape which contrasts his brown garments.
Glaive fighter: "Hand it over you fools! I swear, people like you aren't good for anything but labor and currency." Kanna Foloki watches from a rooftop and flips a coin from the roof on the man's helmet. The glaive soldier looks up and Janko kicks open the case.
The case reveals piles of coal which Yoki hurls into the glaive fighter. Ron bolts an arrow into a spear soldier while flips behind the other who readjusts his grip as he looks to impale her.
Ron darts an arrow into him as his back is turned. A swordsman lashes down at her but Yoki blocks with generated wrist guards before kicking his shin and following up with a side kick to the nose.
The firebender jumps into action and kicks a gust of fire into Yoki. Yoki rolls backward and steam flows from her clothes. She is subdued but not destroyed. Ron viciously zaps an arrow through the man's heart.
The next swordsman runs at him but is obliterated by a beam of dark orange and gold flames. Kanna Foloki flips a few feet across him, landing as gracefully as ever. The sun shines down on her gold eyes.
Two knife throwers run to match Kanna and her ally. One wastes no time as he hurls two knives at her. Kanna swivels her body left to right as he blissfully evades both.
Kanna twirls her legs causing her body to spin before extending her left hand and blowing the man to pieces with an elongated fire fist. The other fighter throws three knives at Kanna but she flips backward and avoids all of them.
Ron checks his girlfriend and notices she is breathing. He then eliminates the combatant with a rapid shot. A fighter with a whip steps at Kanna and hurls two spinning blades at her.
Kanna ducks under the first projectile then kicks her body off the wall to evade the second star. Kanna oscillates her arms before flinging a volatile fire sphere adjacent to the fighter which knocks him out.
Gajo arrives on a breath-taking elephant-buffalo. He is 6'4, heavyset yet strong, has a bald head complemented by a full black beard, and has pale skin. Gajo wears traditional mountain battle armor that is grey, brown, and white.
Two ape-rhino saddled axe warriors accompany him. Kanna immediately kicks a fireball into the right rider, blasting him off his beast. The creature runs after her with frightening speed and power yet Kanna still easily flips on it.
Unlike most creatures, this one does not immediately settle down. Instead it shrugs left to right, as it looks to buck her off, Kanna keeps a hold and remains calm. The proxy whispers, "Easy, easy there. I'm not here to hurt you."
The creature bellows and exhales. As this happens, Ron sprints as the other axe rhino fighter chases him. Ron lodges two arrows back at him but the burly man bats both arrows away. Kanna opens her mouth and spews a fire ray into the man without hurting the creature.
The animal gallops faster in a frenzy. It closes in on Ron and swats him into a trashcan before running off into the unknown. The buffalo-elephant stomps its gigantic feet at the animal Kanna is riding.
Kanna pushes it to run past the stomps which leave enormous dips in the street. Kanna throws a grappling hook on the creature's back and rides up toward the saddle. Gajo turns and flings the hook off the ground but Kanna is still just high enough to kick a fire stream at him.
Gajo rolls right but the stream explodes and briefly disorients him. Kanna lands in the center of the animal's left side. She starts to climb up his fur while Gajo readjusts.
Gajo reveals a crossbow and shoots at her but Kanna flips on the animal's back. Now as she stands across him Foloki punches two flames at Gajo. He tries to block them but they both explode which cause him to stumble off the creature.
Gajo tosses his own rope against a pole which he uses to break his fall before he allows himself to hit the ground. Kanna slides down the animal's fur before kicking herself off and landing across him. Kanna looks, "It's about time you call it a rest."
Gajo rises and flexes his muscles, "I've still got more to give." The kingpin rips off portions of his armor that restrict his movement so he can fight her speedily. Gajo stampedes after the proxy and zaps a left straight from his left hip.
Kanna shifts her body left then fire kicks Gajo's left side, The big man takes it with little strain then hurls an overhand right punch at her. Kanna bobs right and swipes a fireball at him.
Gajo raises his guard and his arms absorb the blast. The criminal mastermind taps his forearms, commenting "These honaga braces come from the honaga rock, capable of withstand flames and most strong forces. They allow me to block like a bender."
Kanna sweep kicks a fire orb at Gajo, "It'll take more than blocking to beat me." The man ducks under the ball which blows up behind him. He flinches from it but keeps going and lodges an uppercut at Kanna's gut. Miss Foloki spins left and kicks a fireball at his gut.
Gajo raises his right knee as he absorbs the blast. Gajo dives at her and Kanna knocks a flame at him. Gajo extends his arms and absorbs the hit then spirals down at her as he hurls both his arms at her body. Kanna slides past him and the criminal knocks two dents in the street.
Gajo jabs left but Kanna slips under the punch. Gajo hurls his right hand at her in a left motion. Kanna flips behind Gajo and points her feet at his back as soon as she hovers behind his body. In that moment, she releases two streams of orange-gold fire from her feet into his back.
Gajo's body glides direct into the surface while Kanna twirls from the shot and lands nimbly. Gajo coughs but Yoki stomps his head in, "That's what you get for messing with my family."
Kanko asks, "I-is it over?!"
Yoki punches her brother in his gut, "That's what you get for being stupid, stop gambling and putting me at risk."
Ron yells, "KANna, can we go with you? It's been hard for me to make a living as a carpenter and for Yoki to have peace working at her gift shop. We've been getting by but these thugs really made us realize we want something different."
Kanna crosses her arms, "But I'm a proxy, I'm supposed to work alone."
Yoki pleas, "Pleassseee, we're like sisters."
Kanna exclaims, "Sisters? I don't have any sisters."
Yoki: "Then I can be the sister you never had." The friends meet with Kubala at the local intel center.
Kubala: "What?! I'm supposed to just you take a pair of random people alongside you. And I never authorized you to bust a random crime boss."
Kanna: "I did the city a favor, you said I'm supposed to protect Gonzala. That's exactly what I'm doing."
Kubala hesitates, "Well, there is some discretion within your role. As long as they do not impede your progress, you can take them with you. But any liability that comes with them will be on you."
Kanna and Yoki cheer, "YAY!!"
Ron pumps his fists in the air, "Yes!" Kanna, Ron, and Yoki celebrate by drinking boba outside the patio in Kanna's apartment. They sit at the second floor.
Kanna: "The world is a extremely different place than what it was just seven years ago when I was just sixteen and the war had ended. It is changing so fast I can barely keep up with it."
Ron: "But no matter how much it changes, there will always be some good people out there and that will always make it worth it."
Yoki: "There are also a lot of bad and dumb people out there."
Ron interrupts, "But, the good people are still out there, you just have to look for them. And you know you can't give up. Good people far outweigh bad people."
Kanna: "I think that depends on the person, you can look at the people who allowed the bad people or circumstances to impact them more. They are always nasty and miserable. But if you let the good people influence you more, you'll be more like us. Which is where it's at."
Yoki bites down on a almond cookie, "Exactly, you get what you look for. It's like seeing a glass of tea as half full instead of half empty. We can't control what people do but we all have a choice of deciding what we do and how we look at life. And if we do it the right way, it'll be better."
