The road to Emerald, a desolate stretch of land outside the city, was lined with dead trees and thick mist.
The closer they got to their destination, the darker the sky became, even though it was barely past sunset.
"Are you sure this is the right place?" Riya asked, gripping the seatbelt tightly.
Karan checked the GPS. The signal was weak, flickering in and out. "If this is wrong, then someone doesn't want us to find the right way."
The car finally stopped in front of a small, isolated hut. The wooden structure looked like it had been standing there for centuries—roof sagging, windows cracked, the air around it eerily silent.
Karan and Riya exchanged a glance before stepping out.
As they approached the door, it creaked open on its own.
A voice from inside whispered, "I've been expecting you."
