Lucas woke up with his breath ragged. His body felt light, but his mind was filled with confusion. This wasn't his room. This wasn't a place he recognized.
He quickly got up and looked around. A simple room with a study desk, a few school textbooks, and a high school uniform hanging on a clothes rack. He glanced at the mirror nearby and immediately froze.
The reflection wasn't him. His face was younger, his jawline smoother, and his body slimmer. This was clearly not his usual body.
Lucas took a deep breath. His eyes landed on the calendar on the desk. One years before the zombie outbreak.
His eyes widened. So this isn't a dream… I'm really in the world of Highschool of the Dead?
He closed his eyes and recalled the original story. This world would turn into hell in one year. Humanity would be on the brink of extinction, and only those strong enough would survive.
A small grin formed on his face.
"Alright… If I've been given this chance, I won't waste it."
Lucas knew that in one years, the world would change drastically. That meant he had to change himself too.
He started with the most important foundation his body.
First, he checked his physical condition. It turned out his new body was younger and recovered faster than his original one. When he ran, he felt more agile. When he lifted heavy objects, his body adapted more easily.
"This is strange…" he muttered after his first training session at the park. "This body can develop faster than an ordinary human."
So he ran an experiment. Every time he pushed himself to the limit, his body not only recovered quickly but also felt stronger the next day. He realized… this body could evolve.
A faint smile appeared on his face. "If that's the case, I can become stronger than anyone."
Lucas then started crafting a training plan:
1. Physical training – Enhancing endurance, speed, and muscle strength.
2. Martial arts – Learning combat techniques for unarmed self-defense.
3. Survival skills – Mastering ways to survive without relying on modern technology.
4. Weapons proficiency – Understanding various weapons that could be used when the apocalypse comes.
After several months of training, Lucas began to notice something extraordinary.
Every time he pushed past his limits, his body didn't just recover—it became stronger in an unnatural way. If his muscles were sore from training, the next day, they didn't just heal, they became denser and more powerful. If he trained his reflexes, his reaction speed increased faster than it should.
At some point, he even began to sense danger before it happened—whether it was just a gut feeling or something deeper than mere human instinct.
"Can this body really evolve without limits…?" he wondered, staring at his hand.
Lucas realized that if he continued training, he might reach something beyond normal human capabilities. He might surpass the very limits of humanity.
But he also understood one thing:
This world would soon turn into a nightmare. And only those who were prepared would survive.
With a faint smile, Lucas returned to his training. He still didn't know how far this body could go, but he wasn't going to stop until he was strong enough to survive the hell that was coming.
