Chapter 22: Spaghetti scandal

The scent of tomato sauce clung to Kara's skin as she sat on the edge of the bathroom sink, her long red hair damp and tangled.

Erica and Dolly hovered around her like loyal soldiers, working their way through what must have been a hundred tissue papers trying to wipe the spaghetti from her curls.

"It's okay, guys. You don't have to do this," Kara said with a weak smile, cheeks flushed with lingering embarrassment.

Erica rolled her eyes, chucking another red-stained tissue into the bin. "You seriously think Tommy hitting you with a plate of spaghetti was an accident?" she asked, wiping sauce from her slender fingers with practiced irritation.

Kara hesitated. "He apologized. I'm not going to hold a grudge over some pasta."

Dolly bit her lip, her worry evident. "Girl, they're picking on you. And you're just... blind to it."

"No one is picking on me," Kara chuckled, pulling off her ruined crop top.

She slipped into Dolly's spare tank top, which was two sizes too small and did little to hide her D-cup chest.

Her curves stretched the fabric to its limit.

Dolly handed over a pair of jeans and paced the floor like a concerned mother hen. "They are picking on you."

"Who's they?" Kara asked, unzipping the jeans skeptically. Her hips didn't exactly agree with the fabric.

Erica peeled open a grape lollipop and pointed with it. "Dalia, Ruby, and Karina. The triple threat. Those blonde devils hate anyone who breathes better than them. And you? You're practically stealing their air."

Kara tried to wiggle into the jeans. They hugged every inch of her half-Mexican, hourglass frame. "These jeans are too tight."

"They're my biggest pair!" Dolly exclaimed. Her eyes nearly bulged. "Girl, I was going to throw them out this morning. What in the actual BBL?"

Kara laughed, tying her hair up. "I'm seventeen. Haven't had a BBL. Yet."

Erica let out a slow, appreciative whistle. "Honestly, I don't think you'll ever need one. You're blessed."

Kara blushed. "Are you gay, Erica?"

Erica narrowed her eyes. "What you wanna fuck me?"

Dolly flushed red .

The bell rang, echoing through the school. Kara grabbed her bag as Erica popped her lollipop back into her mouth.

"Just in case," Kara said with a wink, "I'm bi."

Erica scrunched her nose. "Gay or not, you're not my type."

Laughter filled the room like confetti. Kara smiled genuinely for the first time since the food incident.

As they walked down the hallway, Dolly gave a stern warning. "Piece of advice? If you see blonde hair...run."

Kara raised an eyebrow. "You're blonde."

"Exactly. But I'm on your side," Dolly smirked.

They waved and split off down different hallways.

That's when Kara collided with someone hard.

Her books tumbled to the floor as she looked up, straight into the scowl of Rox Middleton.
