Lisa paced nervously back and forth in her bedroom, her mind racing with worry. She was terrified of what might happen to Klaus once he went to his chambers tonight. She had no concrete idea of what awaited him there, but her gut told her it wouldn't be good.
"Why isn't he here yet?" Lisa muttered, frowning. Her gaze fixated on the door when she suddenly noticed Klaus standing there.
Apparently, he had been standing there for a while, but she hadn't sensed his presence. That made her uneasy.
"Uhm… you came," Lisa stuttered, approaching him hesitantly. Klaus stepped into her chambers, his gaze calm but probing.
"Why don't you want me to go to my chamber?" he asked, his tone laced with curiosity. He had already figured out her intentions. Lisa wasn't the type to invite him into her chambers—she was far too stubborn for that, and he knew it.
"I didn't say that," Lisa quickly defended herself, but Klaus nodded knowingly.
"So… you really want me in your chamber?" he asked again, raising an eyebrow.
Lisa nodded, a bit too quickly. "I… I just want to talk," she explained, though even she felt the lie in her words. Klaus smirked, amused by how far she would go to avoid the truth.
He walked over to the wooden chair at the edge of the room and sat down before casually lifting a finger. The door to her chamber slammed shut with a loud click.
Lisa flinched at the sound, her fists clenching as she tried to gather her thoughts. She needed to figure out where to begin.
"Why…" She hesitated, her voice trembling slightly. "Why haven't you gotten rid of me yet? It's obvious no one in your kingdom wants me here."
Klaus reached up and removed his mask, revealing his face. Lisa showed no reaction—she had long grown used to his features. He had a face unlike any creature she'd known, but she had come to accept it.
"Because we made a deal," he replied simply.
Lisa licked her lips nervously. "But I called it off," she countered.
Klaus nodded calmly. "I let you go. That doesn't mean the deal was off," he clarified.
Lisa frowned, confused, before sitting on the ground and placing her hands on the floor.
"You know… I can hear what these little ants are saying," she remarked, her voice light but tinged with wonder.
Klaus nodded. "It's fascinating."
"Can demons listen to animals too?" she asked curiously.
He shook his head. "No."
Lisa pouted when she realized he wasn't contributing much to the conversation. She was doing all the talking, and while he seemed to be listening, she couldn't tell if he was actually paying attention.
"I'm bored," she admitted with a sigh. "I can't spend the rest of my life in this palace. I'll lose my mind if I stay in here another day."
"Go wherever you want," Klaus replied nonchalantly.
"They'll hurt me," Lisa said softly.
Suddenly, she felt his presence behind her. She froze, hating how demons always appeared and disappeared at will.
"Come with me," Klaus said. "Let's visit someone."
Lisa quickly stood up, her curiosity piqued. It was late—definitely not visiting hours. "Now?" she asked.
He nodded, and a small smile crept onto her lips. For once, she felt excited. At least she'd get to leave the palace for a while, and with Klaus by her side, she felt safe enough.
Klaus put on his mask and extended his hand to her. Lisa hesitated for a moment, her gaze lingering on his long claws. She swallowed hard before taking his hand.
With a flick of his wrist, the windows flew open. In the blink of an eye, Klaus leapt out, and Lisa clung to him tightly. Within seconds, they landed near the stables.
"Please… don't do that!" Lisa clutched her chest, trying to steady her racing heart.
"Please, can everyone stop appearing and disappearing? It really irks me."
"We didn't disappear," Klaus said matter-of-factly. "I just jumped down. The stables are right beside the palace."
After all, disappearing with a non-demon was impossible.
He mounted a horse and helped Lisa up behind him. Her arms wrapped around his waist instinctively, and she noticed how slim he was beneath his black cloak.
"Hold on tightly," Klaus whispered before urging the horse forward.
Lisa obeyed, holding onto him for dear life as the horse galloped at a breakneck speed. It felt like they were escaping from an enemy.
Eventually, they stopped in front of a small bungalow. Klaus dismounted, helping Lisa down, and she scanned the area curiously.
"What is this place?" she asked.
"Follow me," Klaus said simply.
Lisa followed him inside, her senses overwhelmed by the scene in front of her. The bungalow was filled with demons. Women danced provocatively on a podium, their hips swaying seductively as the men around them cheered and shouted.
"Klaus…" Lisa muttered, uneasy. Her voice trailed off when the room suddenly went quiet. Everyone had noticed Klaus.
"It's his wolf wife," some of the women whispered, their eyes lingering on Lisa.
Lisa followed Klaus as he made his way to a door at the far end of the room. He pushed the door open, and her eyes widened in shock. Inside, a naked woman sat on the lap of a demon. It was Vorgath.
"Get out," Klaus commanded, his voice cold and firm.
The naked demon woman disappeared instantly, and Vorgath shot to his feet, his expression filled with worry. His gaze shifted nervously between Klaus and Lisa.
Did Lisa tell Klaus about what she heard? He wondered.
"Don't believe anything she told you!" Vorgath blurted out defensively.
Klaus's gaze was unyielding. "You approached her chambers," he stated flatly.
It was a well-known rule: no one was allowed to enter the queen's chambers, much less approach them uninvited.
"I didn't get in! I just… lost my way," Vorgath stammered, but Lisa's expression made it clear she didn't believe him.
"Her protection is in your hands. If anything happens to her, I'll hold you personally responsible," Klaus warned.
"Everyone wants her dead!" Vorgath snapped. "How can I be blamed if one of the demons finally succeeds?"
Klaus took a step closer, his voice dangerously low. "Did you just raise your voice at me?"
Vorgath gritted his teeth but didn't back down.
"Maradona isn't here to plead on your behalf," Klaus continued. "I see you trying to divide my kingdom, but no matter how hard you try, you'll never be fit to challenge me."
The words struck a blow to Vorgath's pride. He chuckled bitterly, masking his anger.
"Keep looking down on me," Vorgath thought, his gaze flickering to Lisa. He blamed her for all of this.
