Chapter 62; I love you Lisa

It was dark and getting anyone at this time was hard.

The street was dark and deserted, the only sound being the distant hum of a city that never slept.

Lisa knew she had to find a way to get help, but she had no phone and no idea where the nearest payphone was.

She started to run, her feet pounding the pavement as she desperately searched for someone to assist her.

She spotted a convenience store a block away, its neon lights a beacon of hope in the darkness.

Lisa burst into the convenience store, out of breath and frantic. The clerk, a bored-looking young man, looked up from his phone and raised an eyebrow.

"Hey, can I help you?" he asked, his tone neutral.

Lisa rushed over to the counter, her eyes scanning the area for a phone. "I need to call 911," she said, her voice shaking. "My boss has been attacked. He's unconscious."

The clerk's expression changed from boredom to concern. "Okay, okay. Let me call for you," he said, picking up the phone and dialing 911.

As they waited for the police to arrive, Lisa paced back and forth in front of the counter, her mind racing with thoughts.

She still couldn't believe that he did it for her.

As the police arrived, they quickly took control of the situation, securing the scene and calling for an ambulance to take Canary to the hospital.

Lisa rode with Canary to the hospital, her mind racing with thoughts of what could she she did incase Canary didn't make it. Her eyes were full of fear and tears.

When they arrived, the medical team quickly took Canary into the emergency room.

The police, meanwhile, began to investigate the scene, collecting evidence and interviewing witnesses. It didn't take them long to identify the perpetrators: Isaac and his group.

The police quickly tracked down Isaac and his accomplices, arresting them and taking them into custody.

As the news of the arrest spread, Lisa felt a sense of relief wash over her. Justice would be served, and Canary would be able to recover in peace.

Lisa sat in the hospital waiting room, her mind racing with thoughts of Canary's condition. She knew she had to call his parents in Annertoz, but every time she thought about it, she felt a wave of anxiety wash over her.

What if they blame me for what happened? she thought. What if they're too worried to stay calm?

Lisa took a deep breath and tried to calm herself down. She knew she had to make the call eventually, but for now, she decided to wait.

I'll wait until Canary is awake and recovering, she thought. Then I'll call his parents and let them know what happened.

With a sense of resolve, Lisa stood up and walked over to the hospital room where Canary was being kept.

She sat down in the chair next to his bed, taking his hand in hers.

Lisa's eyes welled up with tears as she gazed at Canary's peaceful face.

She had never felt such a deep ache in her heart before. Seeing Canary, the strong and vibrant man she loved, lying helpless in a hospital bed was almost too much to bear.

She reached out and gently brushed a strand of hair out of Canary's face, her touch trembling with emotion.

"Why did this have to happen to you?" she whispered, her voice cracking with sorrow.

Lisa felt a wave of despair wash over her. She had always been the strong one, the one who held everything together.

But now, seeing Canary like this, she felt her strength crumbling.

She took a deep breath and tried to compose herself, but it was no use.

The tears began to flow, and Lisa sobbed uncontrollably, her heart breaking for the man she loved.

A gentle voice interrupted Lisa's sobbing. "Ma'am, I think you might need to take a break. Would you like me to get you a glass of water or something?"

Lisa looked up to see a kind-faced nurse standing over her, a concerned expression on her face. Lisa nodded, feeling a little embarrassed about her outburst.

The nurse handed Lisa a box of tissues and a glass of water. "Here, take a few deep breaths and try to calm down. Your friend is going to be okay."

Lisa took a few sips of the water and tried to compose herself. She looked over at Canary, who was still sleeping peacefully.

"What's his condition?" Lisa asked the nurse, her voice shaking slightly.

The nurse smiled reassuringly. "He's stable, but he's going to need some time to recover. The doctor will be in to see him soon, and we'll know more then."

Lisa nodded, feeling a small sense of relief. At least Canary was going to be okay.

At least Canary was going to be okay.

Lisa's head nodded forward, her chin dipping towards her chest.

Her hands, still clasped around Canary's, relaxed slightly as she drifted off to sleep.

The hospital room was quiet, the only sound the steady beeping of the machines monitoring Canary's vital signs.

Lisa's gentle snores blended in with the hum of the equipment, creating a soothing background noise.

Canary, still unconscious, lay peacefully, his hand wrapped in Lisa's.

It was as if he sensed her presence, even in his sleep.

As the night wore on, the hospital room remained calm, the only disturbance the occasional nurse coming in to check on Canary's condition.

***

Canary slowly opened his eyes, groggily taking in his surroundings.

He was in a hospital room, and Lisa was sleeping beside him, her hands wrapped around his.

He smiled weakly, feeling a warmth in his heart. Lisa had stayed with him the whole time, even when he was unconscious.

Canary gently squeezed Lisa's hands, trying not to wake her. But Lisa stirred, her eyes fluttering open.

"Hey," Canary whispered, his voice hoarse from disuse.

Lisa's eyes widened, and she sat up straight, her hands still wrapped around Canary's.

"You're awake!" she exclaimed, tears of joy welling up in her eyes.

Canary smiled, feeling a sense of relief wash over him. "I'm awake," he repeated, his voice a little stronger now. His face was pale and his lips were dry but he still looked handsome.

Lisa leaned forward, her face inches from Canary's and cupped his face.. "I was so scared," she whispered, her voice trembling.

Canary's eyes locked onto Lisa's, and he felt a deep connection to her. "I'm sorry," he whispered back. "I'm so sorry you had to go through that."

Lisa's face crumpled, and she hugged him tightly sobbing uncontrollably.

Canary was surprised bu her behavior, care and concern but he slowly wrapped his arms around her, holding her close as she cried.

" All is well.." He spoke to her.

Lisa pulled away from the hug and looked at him again with tears in her eyes.

" I was so scared. I thought I might lose you.." she cried.

Canary raised his hands and cupped her left cheek.

" I am fine Lisa, You shouldn't worry anymore." He comforted her.

——

Lisa lifted her head from Canary's shoulder, her eyes red and puffy from crying.

"Why?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper. "Why did you have to accept being beaten because of me, when you could have fought back and defended yourself?"

Canary's expression turned somber, and he looked away, his eyes clouding over. "I couldn't risk hurting anyone else," he said quietly. "I couldn't risk losing control and hurting you."

Lisa's eyes narrowed, her brow furrowed in confusion. "But you could beat up all those men who were attacking us," she pointed out.

"Why couldn't you defend yourself against Isaac and his gang?"

Canary's jaw clenched, and he looked away, his eyes flashing with anger. "That was different," he growled. "Those men were a threat to you, to us. I would do anything to protect you, Lisa."

" I am just a normal worker Canary, Why would you risk your life because of me ?" Lisa wept.

Canary gave a soft smile and he looked deep into her eyes and said.

" I love you, Lisa,"

Canary said, his voice filled with conviction. "I love you so much."

Lisa's heart melted at Canary's words, and she felt tears of joy welling up in her eyes.

" You are joking , Right ?" She asked to make sure.

" No darling , I love you so much.." He took her hands in his and looked at her face again.

" I don't really know how you feel about me. I am not good enough but…"

"I love you too, Canary," she whispered stopping his words midway her voice trembling with emotion.

Canary's face lit up with a radiant smile and Lisa smiled back.

He slowly pulled her into a hug again.
