Chapter 85: Pack Politics

POV: Marcus Hale

"He's lying!" The charge cut through the war council like a knife.

I froze, my finger still pointing at the map where I'd been explaining our defense plan. All eyes turned to the back of the tent where Gamma Rael stood, his face twisted with anger.

"Your Beta has been feeding information to the enemy," Rael continued, stepping forward. "I have proof."

My heart hammered against my ribs. This couldn't be happening. Not now. Not when we were so close to forming a united front against The Mother.

"That's a serious accusation," Elias said, his voice dangerously calm. He turned to me, his eyes searching mine. "Marcus?"

"It's not true," I said firmly, holding his eyes. "Rael is the one we should be asking. He disappeared for three hours last night."

"Because I was following him!" Rael pointed at me again. "I saw him meeting with one of The Mother's spies at the edge of camp."
