Chapter 1

My ex-husband was drugged by his enemies, but he pushed away his fiancée and grabbed me as the antidote.

After three days and three nights, Damien left coldly, kicking me away as I trembled all over.

"Still lingering in bed? Get lost!"

"What? Not enough? Or did you think I forgave you?"

"Faye, I just got used to it. After all, you're tough. Fallon is delicate, she can't handle this stuff."

I silently cleaned myself, just as I picked up my clothes from the floor ready to leave, he called his men in.

"Wait!"

"Bring the medicine! Just in case she tries to have my baby again!"

The shrapnel in my heart burrowed deeper, I trembled all over, but still swallowed back the metallic taste in my mouth.

It's a good thing he doesn't know that five years ago, his heart full of shrapnel was switched into my body.

And the heart beating inside him is mine.

"Two hundred grand, seventy grand a night. For an old friend, I'll round it down."

I took the medicine and swallowed it in one gulp.

Looking up, I met Damien's gloomy gaze.

"Faye, do you love money that much? Will you die without it?"

"Isn't the money you ran off with five years ago enough?"

I clutched the sharp pain in my chest, laughing softly.

"Yes, it's not enough."

The heart inside my body was riddled with holes.

With each passing day, the shrapnel dug deeper into my heart.

I wasn't afraid of pain; the pain comforted me.

But the doctor said I only had a few days left, and the kidnappers who killed my son five years ago still haven't been found.

This money should be enough to keep me alive for a few more days.

Smack—

A slap landed across my face. My legs gave out, and I fell to the ground, my head hitting the corner of the bed, blood flowing freely. Damien stared at his hand suspended in mid-air, about to take a step when his fiancée Fallon, who had rushed in from outside, caught his arm.

"Sis, have you gotten too used to being a whore?"

"How can you compare my brother to those sleazy men of yours? If I hadn't been sick and weak these past few days, would my brother have needed you for the antidote? You moaned so shamelessly, yet you still dare to ask for money?"

Fallon's snow-white chest heaved up and down, never failing to remind Damien that I had run off with another man back then.Damien withdrew his steps, clenching his fists tightly before relaxing them again, his smile not reaching his eyes.

"Fine, Faye, you wanted to talk about money, didn't you? I'll give you money! But you'll have to earn it yourself!"

"Right now, immediately!"

Damien took out a wad of cash and threw it at me, the bills fluttering everywhere, covering the floor.

He grabbed my chin forcefully, his eyes filled with endless frost.

"Faye, I never knew you could be so cheap!"

"If that's the case, why did you leave in the first place? And now, aren't you back by my side again?"

Damien's brow furrowed, the depth in his eyes strangely familiar.

He continued his actions, but his voice became husky.

"Faye, say you love me."

"Say you love me, and I'll let you go."

Tears fell from the corners of my eyes, but I bit down hard on my teeth, not making a sound.

Love was such a luxurious thing, something I no longer deserved since the moment I caused our son's death and left Damien.

Damien forcefully pried open my mouth, then fell back onto the couch, pulling me on top of him. His lips curled into a smile, but his eyes were like frozen ice.

"After all this fuss, I'm tired too. Why don't you take the lead? I remember you used to love it the most."The crowd around us erupted in hoots and whistles. Out of the corner of my eye, I caught Fallon's malicious glare.

I hesitated as I stood up, looking at the bills scattered all over the floor. My heart ached with a dull, throbbing pain.

Memories of the past flashed through my mind.

Those passionate, warm, and joyful moments.

I slowly uttered a few words:

"Damien, I don't love you anymore."

A tear fell, just as he wanted.

Damien looked at me in disbelief.

The smile faded from his lips as he shoved me away, his eyes blazing red.
