Follow The Men

After the lesson of the night, Penny realized she was too bold! She had almost decided to announce that her uncle and aunt were mistreating her. Forgetting that no one would take her side. Even if they believed in her, they would not support her. They have nothing to gain from her. A woman could not provide them wealth or power or any kind of support.

It hurt to apologize to the person who wanted to prove her insane. But she had no choice. Now that her anger had subsided, the desire to survive had kicked in. she had to find a way without alerting them.

"She must be too excited last night! But now she is embarrassed by her behavior." her aunt announced her guests and Penny nodded meekly. The guests smiled and continued, knowing the truth, ignoring it.

As she sat meekly in a corner, she made every effort to blend into the background. Though she had her attention on the napkin she was embroidering, her ears were all over the place.

These days, Penny feels like her aunt was on pins and needles. Her uncle's agitated behavior and suspicious actions were clear warning bells. They will soon execute their plan now that she is an adult.

Every time a stranger entered the mansion, Penny's breath hitched and sweat began to form on her palms. She was terrified, but she couldn't give up after coming so far.

"Penny go and see why the maids are not here yet!" a work that belong to housekeeper! Penny forced a smile on her face and nodded as she stood up and left the room.

"Martha, see if the tea is ready? There are more guests in the hall." Penny stood up and said it to the head maid who was guiding all the servants in the kitchen.

"Yes, my lady. Snacks and tea will be served soon. Do you prefer a plate of snacks in your room too?" It was a way of telling her that she was not needed in the parlor room anymore and had to stay in her room for the meantime.

Her cheeks burned in shame for being told back by a maid, but they were covered conveniently as she was looking towards the fireplace.

"That would be appreciated and I would like a glass of juice instead of tea, thank you." Penny walked straight to her room when the maid bowed her head, afraid that if she stayed, she would have to look at their mocking stares even more.

But as she approached the hall, her steps came to a halt. Her gaze was drawn to a man dressed in a simple suit that exudes luxury.

No matter how many times had she seen him, her eyes were still drawn to his face. His golden hair fell across his face, concealing his blue eyes that shone like sapphires, which were frozen, but possessed a certain charm and seduction.

His blue eyes were complemented by a pointed nose and a square jaw. He was languid in his carelessness and looked around with bored eyes, judging everything around him.

She could not help but stare at his unjustly attractive face until she realized that he was staring back at her.

Her eyes met his, and she felt her whole body freeze right there. She'd be doomed if her uncle found out she was leaning on the railing and staring at him after the last night.

Not to consider keeping her locked in her room for the time being, but this time there might be more. Something more that she didn't want to face right now.

Yet she found herself staring back at him with the same confidence he was showing. If she backed out, she would lose.

His lips arched into a smirk that looked dark and mysterious. How she wanted to punch it and break those shining teeth.

"Your highness, you are already here. I was not expecting you to come this soon. I am honored to meet you in person." She had never seen her uncle bow this much from the day he had taken the seat of the duke, the seat that belonged to her father.

However, after her father passed away, he took possession of the palace, the dukedom, and the wealth that belonged to him as his own, but when it came to her, she was very conveniently ignored like a fly in the tea.

The maids who used to pamper her like a princess now treat her as a guest in the room. She was respected, but she was regarded as a stranger when it came to household management.

"It is alright. I should be the one to come because I need you, and I am glad that I did. Otherwise, I would have missed the chance to see such a beautiful thing." When she felt the man turn to stare at him, her heart leaped out of her rib cage, and she crouched instantly.

From the space between the railings which had a small vase table, she saw her uncle turning into her direction with a frown on his face.

"I was talking about the palace. What are you thinking!" He chuckled when he saw a wave of relief wash over her uncle's face and so did hers.

It was as though he could sense her insecurities and read her mind from there. He steered her uncle away from the area while keeping him engaged in the conversation.

Penny bit her lip because she knew she needed to head to her room right away. It was already a miracle that she had once escaped her uncle's wrath, but she had the feeling that if she missed their conversation, she would regret it.

As they walked away, she continued to feel restless, and before she could regain her composure, she had started to follow the men.
