Die From Her Hands

Adam smiled unconsciously, the way the girl ran away. For this family, she was nothing more than cattle, bought and sold for money and benefit.

Too bad, his benefit lies in selling her too.

"Are you sure that his majesty would pass it? After all she is the daughter of a man dear to him!" James, her uncle's jaws clenched, and his face turned red. "If the fraud comes to light then I will lose her guardianship."

The man would lose much more than that, But Adam did not point it out. Since his voice was rough and filled with evil intent. Adam just laughed.

"Happy news then, you can spend all your time in prison without worrying about your retirement."

His cold dark glance flickered to the door and then looked back at James, his hands itched for some beating.

"You worry a lot. As long as you give me twenty five percent of the money, I will make it happen." his shrewd eyes were filled with arrogance that ticked James but he still nodded his head.

Having seventy five percent was better than not having anything and in the whole empire only Adam could help him.

He looked through the corner of his eyes that the aunt had returned back and was now scolding the maids for their poor work.

The girl must be alone in the room then. His eyes filled with something darker and sinister. He gave James one last look showing his impatience.

"Alright, I am ready for the gamble, prove it that she is mentally sick and I will give you the money once she marries my servant." He looked at the man standing behind him with confidence when Adam chuckled again but his smiles were never friendly.

"Since you have decided it, give me all the records and applications by tonight. It will still take me a week to get permission on everything. And if you need advice, it would be better to choose your son than to choose a stranger who is working as your loyal servant. Money can change anyone's loyalty." her uncle's eyes hardened and he looked at the servant who was sitting on the corner.

The servant flinched at his master's intense gaze and cowered in his place, cursing the demon who did not trust anyone and sowed the seeds of discord in everyone's mind.

"Alright, I will go with your decision. After all, you are the future of our empire." James smiled with a flattering look on his face that Adam snorted.

"And I am sure that you will remember your friends." James spoke in a flattering voice.

'If there is one!' Adam thought as he nodded with an ominous look on his face. But a strange image of a young girl passing him a stone flashed in his eyes. He ignored that image.

"Then the matter is settled. I will be leaving now that we are done." Adam stood up from his seat and looked around as if he was looking for something when Aiden walked in with a leisurely look.

He looked like a cub who had no awareness of his surroundings.

"I wonder if he deserves it though. Your son has lived quite a sheltered life." The man looked away with a frown as he stared at his son with a glare which raised a brow.

Without caring about his father's anger, Aiden walked in, took out two bags of gold coins from the cabinet and walked out.

"I apologize for his lack of respect. He was just in a hurry." Adam laughed sardonically. For he knew better the young man was full of arrogance and did not think it was important for him to address them.

But he did not care. He nodded carelessly as he picked up all the papers. Without saying a word, he walked out of the room as if the house was his.

A look of arrogance that befitted his personality was on his face.

But he did not go out the door as he should have. He walked towards the back door and leaned on the wall that was shrouded with darkness becoming part of it.

At first glance, no one would be able to discover his existence there.

Many maids saw him going there, but no one dared to ask anything.

Penny peeked through the small gap of the ajar door. Her heart raced as she held the knob so tightly that her knuckles turned white.

To her relief there was no one. She opened the door with trembling hands and looked around. Her aunt had gone to her room and her uncle was still in the meeting room. She had seen her cousin leaving already.

That only meant servants. If only they would not ask her any difficult questions.

Taking a deep breath, she walked out holding her purse tightly in her hands. It had all the jewels she still had in her custody.

She would return after marrying a good man and demand her inheritance with them.

It was all because of the foolish law that the woman could not take hold of the inheritance. Or else, she would not have been this desperate.

Her slow and calculated steps were filled with worry and the desire to reach her freedom.

She walked towards the back door after crossing the hall. Her heel squeaked on each step while her eyes scanned in the dark.

Just a few more steps and she would be…

"Miss Ravenswood."

Her face paled but her steps did not stop. She kept walking forward pretending to not hear anything.

"Lady Penelope Ravenswood! Where do you think you're going in this darkness?" When he let out a low purr, he moved in closer, and she could feel his breath on her nape.

This man was going to die from her hands!
