"You are not replying because it is a lie!" she retorted. If her father would have fixed her marriage, there was no way that she did not know.
Even if that would have been the case, the man would have come to claim that. She was a golden goose with golden eggs. Which man would let her go! Her uncle would not have been able to meddle since the marriage was decided by her father.
But no one ever came. She had thought of the knight in shining armor coming to save her but it never happened. And now.. She had given up on it.
She will be her own savior. She turned her face towards the window not prying further when the man looked at her with a conflicted gaze but in the end decided to stay silent.
He had always thought that she had a ghost image that was not worth his attention. He could have saved her since he knew her family was not treating her well. But looking at her from afar in the parties, he felt that she didn't need to be saved or there was nothing in her that could be saved.
She was a meek, fearful and dumb girl who knew nothing but some polite pleasantries. But when he saw her now..
He himself did not know how she had hid herself so well. His views on her had completely changed after tonight and now he was not sure if she was going to stay in that palace for so long or already formulating a way to run away.
Whatever it was.. It was none of his business. The girl was none of his business. The moment he overheard Henry talking to his son, he had decided that it had nothing to do with him. Yet when he saw her hiding behind the pillar and walking away with that pale face, he could not help but warn her.
But the girl was bolder than he had thought. Instead of his friendly reminder, she decided to leave by herself. Even the storm was not able to stop her.
He would not lie, he was intrigued. He followed her just out of curiosity but now.. He was an ally of her foolish plan.
Just what was he thinking? Her demise was necessary for his plans. Her money and position was what he needed for his goals. But he had realized that she was not a mannequin which he could use for his benefits but she was a passionate woman with a sharp mouth, which she could use to cut all his thoughts and even bite him if needed.
Who would have thought that she was good at acting if everyone had misjudged her. But he was glad that he was not one of them. He was able to judge her well in their first meeting but what now?
"Your cousin is not as bad as your uncle. He may treat you well. Have you ever thought about talking to him?" he started when she gave him a look telling he was a fool.
"I will spy for you till you want and in exchange you will help me in gaining my freedom. Is there a need for you to worry about my future?" she asked in a cold voice, "we are not friends or well wishers, mister Adam. We are working for benefits.
As long as I will help you in gaining the information, I will expect you to pave a way for me to run again."
Instead of feeling insured by her crude remarks, he only felt more curious about her.
Girls, he had always seen them as kind, soft spoken and even fools that could be manipulated easily but she was the first one who had that much courage and the power to speak. The ferocity in her eyes were remarkable and the way she was manipulating everyone around her.. It made him wonder how much she had suffered to be this sharp.
There is no weapon that does not suffer the pain of hell to be strong and sharp.
"And the moment you tried to fool me, I will show the proof to my uncle and everyone possible. I keep records and trust no one." she added with a fierce look in her eyes as she tried to scare him.
But her actions were like a mouse shouting in front of a tiger who could eat her in a second, yet he did not show her his true face. She did not need to know or her wings would be broken badly this time.
For some reason, he wanted to see her fly with them.
"You seem to think I am a villain here!" he said with a chuckle, "i may not be that bad since i have saved you tonight?" he asked with a strange smile on his face that she shrunk back into the soft pillow of her seat.
"I do not have any image formed for you except an ally. I did not need to make one." she said licking her lips to ignore the fear when he laughed.
"You are too professional, lady Pennelope. I was only being more friendly since we have to work with each other for a long time. But you are right. You do not need to trust a stranger. It would be better if we stick to our part of transactions." he said as he looked away.
But he could still feel her gaze on him, as if she was still waiting for a reaction when he had none to offer.
A line appeared between her dark brows. She studied him for a few moments before taking her gaze away.
No matter how handsome he was. He works for her uncle but still wants to spy on him. He could not be trusted.
